I'm under a 72 hour secondary review here as well and will update

I have had a couple of conversations with Mileage Plus this afternoon. It's chaotic over there, but here's my understanding of the GS status challenge after talking to a supervisor. All current GS who did not requalify this year are automatically in the challenge. No registration required. Also, they said GS members would not receive an email about it, but I'm skeptical of that. Last year, they ultimately did send an email if I recall correctly.
The challenge is the same as last year's, except for the $1k of additional spend. Specifically, you need to spend (book and complete) $18k worth of flights on UA and/or UAX during any rolling 120-day period between 1/1/24 and 6/30/24. Once the challenge requirements are met, GS status is granted through 1/31/25. |

Something else to consider. The spend for Premier 1K is $24,000. So they are effectively saying to someone who spent double that +, you're the same status.
How does that make good business sense? |

It's usually re activated hours after you meet the threshold.
I expected challenge to be higher this year honestly. 18k x 3 (to represent a year) is well below the number many of us attained without notching a re-invite. Based on all discussions above... UA should make the challenge 18k but only on 2 segments max (sorry, sorry...) |
Order placed for new luggage tags today. 8-10 weeks.

Called the GS desk, they transferred me to mileage plus. The rep I spoke with was “shocked” at 86k PQP that I didn’t re-qualify. Account is now under a second review with the marketing team. Was told to expect a call this evening.

shouldn't it be 18 x 4 = $72,000?

No surprise given the purge but I did not requal, 43k+ PQP, ~37.5k paid UA metal, out of IAD. GS since 2018 though light during pandemic and ~35k in 2022. I had big BIS this year and was loyal to United, just happened to get some more good Z fares than usual for work and buy personal tix in, gasp, W or the like.
I am currently on an AA instant status pass and will definitely try to take advantage if possible. According to my calculations, 1k + Executive Platinum > 1k. Sorry to those who should have made it this year but didn’t. It must be extremely frustrating and confounding. But here’s to a 2024 of more freedom and good travels to all! |
I recieved the downgrade email today returning from Europe in J. GS since 2020 with 58,750 PQP and 106 PQF this year, based out of DEN. I think that the bar was really high for Denver because lots of SFO and EWR posting abut requals at lower spend. I just moved to PHX full time over the holidays and if there are any tips about communicating this to GS for a reval, I’m all ears. I’ve been wintering down there for the last few years so they’ll see it in my flight patterns. I’m already $6k PQP after starting the year with an intercontinental trip. It was booked on all UA metal but outbound was swapped to LH due to MAX9 clxs. I upgraded it to LH first so that was probably worth it.

Am not surprised they're struggling with a wave of angry (and possibly soon-to-be former) customers right now. Sheesh. |
downgraded
10 year GS member, based in Denver
91k PQP in 2023 (50% higher than 2022) 10 Intl trips in business class in a united airplane almost every week. This is year is the most I have flown and the most $ I have spent on UA in my life. 40k miles away from hitting the 2M lifetime status Downgraded to 1K Like many of you, I am stunned. It never even crossed my mind that I would not achieve GS again. I am going to contact mileageplus to verify that they did not make a mistake. If they stand by it, they have sent me a clear message. I won't partake in any challenges- just not worth the brain damage to me. But, I will be a free agent, and flying BA and others to Europe. |
Just spoke to the GS desk (not the MP desk who I did speak with and which was a waste of time as they said that they don't handle GS issues) and the lady to whom I spoke was very nice (one of the better agents I've spoken to actually) and after looking through my travel, fare classes, etc. she was "very surprised" that I didn't requalify. That and $5 bucks will get me a cup of coffee. She said that she had put in for a "re-review". I'm relatively confident that it won't amount to anything but I figured why not ask per the suggestions above. Btw, if they tell me they will give me a challenge, I literally won't do it. If 70k of PQP on UA metal doesn't make it, how does $18k in 4 months make sense? Annualize it and you get to $54k for the year which is far less than what I spent last year. It simply tells me that they have different qualifications going forward that really don't make logical sense and why stay with an airline that doesn't value my business. I have been loyal to UA as a few of the GS perks were good for the family but now it is not worth staying loyal to them as a 1k. As an aside, I have 800 Plus Points that I'm sure that I'll never get to use in 2024 as a newly minted 1k.

+1 on buying personal tix in eco. I earn 600k+ points for year, if they expect me to pay personal dollars for personal travel, then dont make the perks include upgradable economy awards. It’s a bit of a double edge sword here. I still dont think it’s as bad as 360 quals (I had a friend with 175k spend and no invite) but personally I’m not interested in forking over my life savings or selling out my employer for first preference in meal choices and short hold times.
