Active thread; UA-Schedule changes; +25% TATL 2022 capacity, Q2 TPAC down 65% vs 2019; June changes

UA publishes a schedule for 330 days in advance (called Beginning of Schedule) and in the past would make tweaks quarterly and things would be fairly settles 3-4 months out. Updates would occur Friday evening / Saturday morning (Chicago time). Routine additions could occur anytime.

However, during the COVID era, UA has gone to a more dynamic and shorter-term setting of schedule (as has the other carriers). Presently UA, while UA is still publishing a schedule for 330 days in advance it reflects pre-COVID operational levels and is considered just a placeholder schedule. Then 3-5 weeks prior to a month, UA makes a major update of that month's schedule.

Examples (Major updates)
The October 2020 schedule was updated 4-5 September 2020
The November 2020 schedule was updated 2-3 October 2020
The December 2020 schedule was updated 30-31 October 2020
Holidays can move the major date a week earlier or later.
Weekly updates are still generally done over night Friday-Saturday (Chicago)

UA does not publish a summary of most schedule changes but a variety of sources below do and summaries / links of those sources can be found in this thread & wiki.

Change Fees Are Gone For Good
The only thing constant is change and at United Airlines, some of the fees associated with changes related to flying are gone for good. The carrier announced today that it is permanently getting rid of change fees on all standard Economy and Premium cabin tickets for travel within the U.S., effective immediately. And starting on January 1, 2021, any United customer can fly standby for free, regardless of fare type, on a flight departing the day of their travel, a first among U.S. carriers, while MileagePlus® Premier® members can confirm a seat on a different flight on the same day with the same departure and arrival cities as their original ticket if a seat in the same ticket fare class is available.

United is also extending its waiver for new tickets issued through December 31, 2020, to permit unlimited changes with no fee. This policy applies to all ticket types issued after March 3, 2020 and is valid for domestic and international travel.

The new change fee policy applies to all standard Economy and Premium cabin tickets for travel within the U.S. 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands and customers will not be limited in the number of times they adjust their flights.

Additionally, United is giving customers more flexibility to change their flights on the day of their travel so they can head home if a meeting ends earlier or enjoy a few more hours on vacation. With the ability to list for same-day standby for free, customers will now have an option to take a different flight with the same origin and destination airports as their original itinerary if space is available at departure. This enhanced option will be available to all customers for travel within the U.S. and to and from international destinations beginning on January 1, 2021. Customers who want to switch flights will be able to add themselves to the standby list through United’s award-winning mobile app, on united.com or at the airport no later than 30 minutes prior to departure for domestic flights and one hour before departure on international flights.

The carrier is also improving the travel experience for its MileagePlus members including waiving all redeposit fees on award travel for flights changed or cancelled more than 30 days before departure and allowing all MileagePlus Premier members to confirm a different flight on the day of their travel. As a way to thank MileagePlus Premier members for their loyalty, beginning January 1, 2021, all Premier members will be able to confirm a seat for free on a different flight with the same departure and arrival cities as their original ticket. This expanded option will allow MileagePlus Silver members and above to confirm a new seat in the same ticket fare class if space is available. Earlier this year, United announced that it will extend status for MileagePlus Premier and United Global Services® members through January 2022. United also reduced thresholds for Premier qualification by 50 percent for each status level, to make reaching an even higher status tier easier.

We’re extending electronic certificatesTo give you more flexibility when you travel, electronic certificates are now valid for 24 months from the date they were issued. This includes all currently valid electronic certificates and all new ones issued on or after April 1, 2020.

They better be quick. We don’t know what our government will do in the next week or so, in relation to flights to Europe.

It's for the funneling of US nationals coming from the Schengen area (see final paragraph of DHS release). Ireland has a lot fewer cases than the UK but DUB can't handle that alone, even with relief from SNN. LHR - which has nonstop flights with all of Europe - is needed for this.

This is also why I believe the UK will keep its borders open to accommodate those pax. Boris will probably be rewarded for this later.

April 14 is outside the 30 day window starting March 13. So, your return is not banned. Your argument for a refund will have to wait until they cancel the April 7 flight TO Europe.

So, San Marino and the Vatican City are exempted while all of Italy is currently on lockdown?
Yeah, that makes sense...

at the highest levels ,almost zero testing and poor comms , it will be a rocky ride for next 6 months. maybe the Euro's will ban travelers from Washington as the rate there are as bad as anywhere in Europe. I also not sure why the UK has got a mulligan , there were 3 deaths in my home county today
I grant you that the CDC wasn't prepared, but it is always effective to prevent the infected from moving, especially since many seem to be asymptomatic. Absent a vaccine, the most effective measures to control this thing are restricting movement of the population and social isolation, along with strict quarantine of the infected.

Note that the ban does not apply to US citizens and "The order does not apply to legal permanent residents, (generally) immediate family members of U.S. citizens, and other individuals who are identified in the proclamation". These people will be "suitably screened". So, no refund for April 7-14?

Yeah, that makes sense...
How are you going to fly from either without transiting thru Schengen.

Will transits be banned too? Like if you haven't actually "been" to Schengen in last 14 days.

Lets say you fly Russia-EU-Africa. And then 10 days later Africa-DOH-US. Ban or no ban?

I've been on hold over 55 minute as agent is trying to get rate desk to OK a change in itinerary involving BCN-FRA-IAD-RIC from Mar. 15 to Mar. 12, with LH BCN-FRA not available and BCN-MUC is different fare. With all the uncertainties on the details of the ban and travelers trying to get back to the US before the travel ban, it's almost impossible to accomplish anything

So we should have the same policy domestically then ?

Unlike the President announced, cargo will not be impacted (neither to or from Europe). It wouldn't make sense anyway, as the Coronavirus doesn't travel with cargo.

Helicopter transfer from San Marino across the Adriatic Sea to Zagreb. From there the nonstop BA flight to LHR. Technically eligible to travel to the US. If Vatican City, first helicopter transfer to San Marino, refuel, and then as above. Convoluted, but for the wealthy it can absolutely be done.

Ban, except if US citizen or eligible for one of (several) other exceptions.

at least some people in europe (who are affected and wanting to change plans) are asleep...

wonder if the 9pm release time was deliberate or incidental
