I'm actually not connecting anywhere. It's a true status run . . . . I just want to deplane, hang out in the airport and do some work, then fly out the next morning.
Well, actually, what I really want to do is come into HK but I know it's not happening right now. :-) |
Just came out of 14-day quarantine in China. Not something I want to do it again but it is not as bad as anticipated but would prefer a better hotel (I stayed at a motel - no choice given tk me despite my repeated requests upon landing at PVG).
As someone who fly 350k+ BIS every year for the past 12 years, I must say I am not looking forward to travel and getting on an airplane during Covid-19. I have travel bugs in me and anxious to get back to my routine travels, hotel stays, etc. It is just a stressful experience from start to finish especially when it comes to international travels. Has UA added more China flights in addition to the current twice weekly flights? I lost track of the US-China aviation dispute (probably the least mattered issue between the two countries at the moment), is it four flights per week on each side or is it 8 flights per week? Is SFO-HKG-SIN passenger service back on? I read from above regarding a status run but I am cautiousAly against it. New requirement just came out requiring Covid-19 testing results for passengers getting onto a HK bound flight from the US (not sure if this applies to transit passengers, the requirement is unclear). Airlines needs to furnish the passenger test results to the HK airport authority before the flights arrive in HK. I wonder if this new requirement may impact the resumption of SFO-HKG-SIN passenger service. |

didn’t realize status run is a thing these days with all the status extensions... are you trying to reach a higher status with the decrease in qualification for the current year or maintain a level?

Assuming you have a HKID and/or HK passport, your plan might be viable, but you should consider the possibility of a 14 day quarantine at your own expense.

I'm trying to reach 3MM status with UA as well as 1K for this year and I need the spend. The fare LAX-HKG is quite good. Plus I miss long haul TPAC flying

I had all ~90K BIS flights cancelled, which would have got me to 3MM. It is difficult to figure out the requirements for different countries. I would like to do a SIN run via HKG and do an immediate turn (about 6 hr layover).

Whoever goes first, please let us know. I need 2900 PQP to make Premier Gold.

After reading the press release issued by the US Hong Kong consulate, it seems impossible to do this: https://www.info.gov.hk/gia/general/...0072200750.htm. This goes into effect for US citizens as of July 29th:
"According to the latest specification, a traveller who, on the day on which the traveller boarded a civil aviation aircraft that arrives at, or is about to arrive at Hong Kong (specified aircraft), or during the 14 days before that day, has stayed in one of the aforementioned specified places must provide the following documents: (1) a letter or certificate in English or Chinese issued by a laboratory or healthcare institution bearing the name and identity card or passport number of the relevant traveller to show that: (a) the relevant traveller underwent a nucleic acid test for COVID-19 the sample for which was taken from the relevant traveller within 72 hours before the scheduled time of departure of the specified aircraft; (b) the test conducted on the sample is a nucleic acid test for COVID-19; and (c) the result of the test is that the relevant traveller was tested negative for COVID-19; and (2) the original of the report for the test issued by the laboratory or healthcare institution bearing the name and identity card or passport number of the relevant traveller; (3) a letter in English or Chinese issued by the relevant authority of the government of the place in which the laboratory or healthcare institution is located certifying that the laboratory or healthcare institution is recognised or approved by the government; and (4) the relevant traveller has confirmation in English or Chinese of room reservation in a hotel in Hong Kong for not less than 14 days starting on the day of the arrival of the relevant traveller in Hong Kong. The operator of the specified aircraft should submit to the Department of Health (DH) before the specified aircraft arrives at Hong Kong a document in a form specified by DH confirming that each relevant traveller has, before being checked-in for the flight to Hong Kong on the aircraft, produced for boarding on the aircraft the above documents." |
They won’t allow a RT SFO-HKG-SFO. As a us citizen without residency in HK you’ll be denied boarding.

I'd do those all the time up until last year, but I wouldn't do one right now. It's one thing if I catch SARS-CoV-2 from going on a plane for a trip I absolutely had to go on. It's quite another if I catch it from a mileage or status run...

We all make our own risk/reward calculations regarding covid. To me the risk of being on a very empty flight, while wearing a mask, is quite low.

+1. I'd take that risk if I weren't pinned down at home. Looking at all those nearly-empty international seat maps is driving me crazy, but it can't be helped right now. Except maybe by not looking...
