Fingers crossed for you and all of us wanting to do a TPAC. Hoping there's some sort of testing in place by then to allow you to get in.

Have a SFO to TPE flight booked for mid August. Still scheduled but I’m betting UA should probably just delay the route until the October batch of flights coming back online. I wonder if should go back before it’s open season for all or now with a 14 day quarantine as an ARC (Or a citizen)?

Unless you are a citizen or permanent resident of the nation of Taiwan, you won't be allowed to board even if UA is operating the flight. Currently BR is operating daily from LAX, but the loads are pretty much limited given the restrictions on who can travel, and SAUA are zero'd out on the BR routes for the rest of the summer.

I have an ARC so makes me eligible to board and enter Taiwan. Side note, seems that all bookable UA TPE flights right now have RN seats available across all flights I’ve searched for, but not PZ. Bought R to begin with (waitlists PZ) so maybe take the ETC and buy the cheapest and upgrade using PlusPoints since have not used any this year anyways.

Perhaps by mid August you can just do the 7 day quarantine if you can verify you are traveling for business.

UA has been pretty consistently selling 871 and 872 and then cancelling the flights about 3 weeks out. It sure would be nice if they were up and running in August, though.

a special visa to enter China : is 14-day quarantine still required to enter into China?

I noticed that EWR<->HKG was taken off the schedule for August, as they re-routed me through SFO->HKG on an upcoming trip.

I am ticketed to get back to Thailand next month, but doesn't look like there is any chance of that happening in August.

Next ticket is for November, so hopeful for that one.

Question for you all, please. I am a US citizen contemplating flying LAX-HKG RT in August, landing and spending the overnight in the airport (which will feel like day to me), and then out the next morning. It's about 15 hours in the airport since I obviously will not be allowed into the country. I know at one time I would have been able to do this. Any complications in the era of covid? Thank you!

I'm not so sure, but I think you'd be flagged at check-in as ineligible with a RT, and then it would be up to you to make the case that you'll stay in 'transit' for the turnaround and hope for agent dispensation.

Personally, I wouldn't try, but in the era of cancel any time and immediate ETC, I suppose you could give it a go and see what happens, then take a credit if they say boo.

Thank you! That's interesting about the flagging; I hadn't considered that part. Sounds like it might be worth a shot, thanks!

It would just be part of the normal documents / admissibility check. In the before times, a US passport would qualify, but currently only HKSAR and PRC citizens (and BNO) are allowed to enter. IATA also has this language:

Where are you connecting to from HKG? Are you flying on the same airline?

I'm actually not connecting anywhere. It's a true status run . . . . I just want to deplane, hang out in the airport and do some work, then fly out the next morning.

Well, actually, what I really want to do is come into HK but I know it's not happening right now. :-)

Assuming you have a HKID and/or HK passport, your plan might be viable, but you should consider the possibility of a 14 day quarantine at your own expense.
