Is Classified srill open at EWR still? I know UA would sometimes send passengers there at their expense. Wonder if anyone is getting vouchers to dine there while the other lounges close.

Not likely... remember that restaurants are closed unless it's for delivery or takeout. As far as I'm aware, that includes airports. Classified isn't a takeout restaurant, so I presume it's completely shut.

What are people's (very rough) predictions that Polaris lounges will re-open by august? Have a J trip from FRA to LAX second week fo August and deciding whether to take UA via EWR, Swiss via ZRH, Austrian via VIE. This will be the end of a work trip so trying to enjoy the return journey. Thanks for your inputs!

When will TATL traffic return to normal? -- that is your answer. Best case in my mind is July, worst could be months later.

I expect Polaris to be closed through August and limited UC through similar. |

My bet is September/October at the earliest. |

Unlikely to see any recovery before the fall.

At this point - I can't imagine Europe opening itself back up smack in the middle of what is usually high season unless warm weather truly does wipe this out and this thing is proven to be seasonal.

The app doesn't mention closures. UA.com does. For example, at EWR the C74 UC shows open. The rest of the UC's and the PL show "Temporarily closed" and a header that shows the following:
The coronavirus outbreak continues to have a significant impact on travel demand. As a result, we've temporarily suspended operations at some of our United Club℠ locations and United Polaris® lounges. For the most up-to-date information, use the tool below. |

makes sense. The C74 club is the biggest club at ewr (for now). I’m not sure what their plans are. Because currently where the pop up C123 lounge is, that one is temporarily closed because they are building a new 2-story club there (according to desk agent I talked to when I was there in Jan). So if that one turns out bigger than the current C74 lounge (which is already pretty big imo), curious whether they would then close the C74 lounge and open the new C123 lounge.

I am at ORD right now continuing to GRU with a four hour connection. I was unaware of the Polaris Lounge closure effective today. But I do understand that pax loads are light and the rationale makes sense to me. I was directed by customer service agent to the UC at Gate C17. When I scanned my BP to get into the UC, I asked if drinks were still complimentary for Polaris customers. Agent said to show my BP to the bartender, but bartender insisted to charge me $5 for an IPA, saying only Miller LIght was complimentary. I politely declined and came here to FT to get more details.
Update: I decided to go back to the UC check-in desk to discuss the situation. Agent there definitely confirmed with the manager that Polaris customers are not to be charged for any premium drinks. We had a polite chat among the staff and I am now enjoying my complimentary IPA. I'm surprised I am the first one today to experience this here at their major hub. J pax loads must be ALOT lighter than I thought. Another piece of useful info: the bar closes at 21:30 and the club closes at 22:00. |
