Companions of any sort can board with lowest group number in the party. As others noted, this will be WILMA in theory, not in practice.

First time seeing BG6 today at IAD … assuming that was the BE pax boarding after the WILMA folks. (I didn’t stick around after preboarding to find out).

Flying back from ICN (Seoul) a few days ago, and they had a dedicated 1K line. Clearly home-made, and I'm guessing that once they had finished 1K boarding they remove the 1K sign to create the group 2 line.

Admirable albeit isolated initiative

The employee who came up with this deserves a big raise. That is a fantastic solution. Everyone wins.

The new and improved version will have "GS" temporarily placed over the "1"💡

No need. Pre-boarding will simply go back to being civilized .

Preboard and minors with their escorts

Been seeing big groups of minors with their escorts in the pre-board group for roughly the last month in PHX on the flight to EWR. At first, I thought it was a one time thing but it's become a pretty regular occurrence. They usually board before 1K.

Is this a new thing or a change in United's pre-board policy?

Families w/ sub-two spawn are after GS and before 1K, according to UA boarding process (and has been, for years). It is often abused. Fairly often, seems like any kindergarten-3rd graders are used as the "sub-2" props by parents for pre-boarding, and they bring along extended family. Same with grandma w/ cane accompanied by 5 others at outset of boarding. It is what it is. UA GAs usually aren't going to say "no". I'll have to say they usually don't take up bin space where I'm sitting after boarding later. Annoying, but not end of world.

Part of the problem is inconsistency in the announcements - a United brand feature - where I've heard "under 2 years of age", or "2 years of age or under", or just "children".

Now over at Delta, they do it better - "parents with strollers and car seats" - the age of the child isn't relevant - no stroller or car seat, then no need to board early, therefore they can drag junior on board when their boarding group is called, freeing up priority boarding for people who actually need more time vs those who feel entitled to have it.

I've noticed this too. It's gotten really out of hand, they start allowing pre-teens to board. I've not once seen anyone turned away.

I boarded a full 737 earlier this month. I was in eco+ on an aisle. I boarded in group 2 due to CC, about half the plane boarded in group 2 and above. I had to get up twice to let in the window and middle seat person. Don't see how this system is doing much when United has so many people who board in early groups.

Good to know. If I ever fly Delta, I'll be sure to bring a stroller with me. 😎

I apologize. I am the inconsiderate passenger who purposely board last to my window seat, causing you and the middle pax to get up after both of you have already settled in

So, you're complaining about yourself? If you had boarded with the "aisle people" instead of group 2, I guess the system would have worked. You do have a choice - 1) easier bag storage or 2) having to get up twice - you opted for #1
