I'm sure there is also a small group of people that don't care about the $ but want the status but guessing that's not that many.
In my view, however, for most flyers these promos are really just the casino just seeing if they can get the player to stay at the table a little longer.

My "targetted" offer is 15,000 PQMs for $1,730 --- 11.5 cpPQM
My premier accelerator offer is 18,000 PQMs for $1,800 --- 10 cpPQM plus 2 cpm for RDMs
So as in previous years for me, the premier accelerator is the better cpPQM "deal".
The Boost targetted offer has better granularity (1K PQM steps).

Seems you could do a 15,000 PQM MR for less than $1730 (my offer as well).
One time this would definitely (seem to) make sense would be if you were Silver, and had the PQD but not the PQM for Gold, and you had an international trip in Y coming up. This would give you *A Gold benefits, including the lounges/showers, better check-in counter options, etc. I could see someone wanting to make the bump up for that reason.
Other possible scenarios could be, say, a Gold who is close to Plat and wants to book a trip for 8 people in E+, with the better luggage (3 bags vs 2 bags) benefit as well.

I'm in Canada so my PQD doesn't matter. I'm at 41K PQM have about the same already booked in the future with United this year and was offered the standard 15K for $2,230.

For me, the PQM only make sense at 7 or 8 cents. The only real advantage of buying status is the ability to avoid charges on award tickets. At current prices it's cheaper to just pay change fees or collect miles on another airline. I think whoever suggested that someone in Willis Tower is smoking dope is right.

Okay, but even then, wouldn't you rather take a flight with that money to get the PQM? Especially if PQD isn't a concern, you can get all sorts of good deals to interesting places. Maybe in November, but it's March - I'm sure we can all find the time for a one or two day MR between now and the end of the year.

Bonus payments?
random thought...annual bonuses pay out across many consulting companies in late February or early march. Lots of high volume flyers among them. Maybe trying to capture some of that free cash. Users can start to enjoy higher status early in the year when looking forward to lots of travel through 2018.

I looked yesterday to see what the offer would be, then exited. This morning I got an email reminding me to complete my purchase.
I wish they wouldn't send these reminders. Some couples use a shared computer, and researching a surprise trip only to have an email asking you to complete your trip can spoil a surprise. Or in this case make it look like you were actually planning to spend $1500-1700 for some PQM's....

Towards the end of the year, there will 100 threads asking, "will I get an offer, I need XXX?" Then there will be people who say that they thought they had hit "SEND" but didn't and somehow UA had a duty to tell them.
