This will be a discussion thread, for discussing the needed qualifications and timing of notification.
Use "Global Services 2018 Notifications (ONLY)" to report your actual notification.
For discussion of GS benefits, please use Consolidated Global Services Thread: Benefits, Questions 2017
For 2017 qualifications, see the 2017 thread

To find your PQDs if >than $12K
Go to MileagePlus activity since my last statement and it is in the "Account summary" table at the top of the page.

Note this is not just the UA operated PQDs (which is commonly believed to be what matters for GS) but rather your total PQDs.

Definitions

BIS is actual scheduled flight distance (Great Circle Mileage Distance -- GCM) between airports with 500 mile minimum for elites. This is the standard used for Lifetime miles also. Those flying mostly sub-500 segments sometimes prefer to not use the minimum rule.

The definition for CPM is a bit vaguer, especially since CPM is used in multiple different situations.

Believe for the purpose of this thread, GS qualification, folks are using

PQD CPM = UA PQDs / UA BIS

Note there is no direct evidence UA uses this CPM number for GS Qualification but it is a number FTers like to use.

As for BIS, UA does not report this number your account and it needs to be manually tracked.

One way is to make use that PQMs are based on BIS but there may be a multiplier / bonus for high end fares. If always in 2x PQMs, you could divide by 2 to get BIS.

rwsteelers had a good method for determining UA BIS -- the change in Lifetime Miles from the first of the year.

I wonder if there is some unknown stack-ranking that occurs at each station? Wouldn't make much sense... but if there is a finite number allocated for each?

GS Notification Window

just spoke with the premier 1K desk, last day notifications will go out is January 15. FYI.
My premier status page did have the welcome back notification however the premier 1K desk stated that she would be able to see if I was denied GS and it did not yet state I was denied.

Did not qualify at 272KPQM/186PQS/$51KPQD(all United). 126 flights, 121 in first and 71 A fares. Also $135K on the United Club card and another $40K on the Explorer card. Appealing the decision but can't do it until next week since I was told 'the tool is not available'.

That is surprising - I had similar stats in the year. (289,310 PQM, 164 PQS, but ~$65k PQD). Have to wonder if there is another ratio they use on PQS / PQD to determine the cut off. I would think you were right on the line since you didn't get in. Good luck!

These kinds of cases always make me wonder as well, but in years past, that correlation simply hasn't been spotted.

Anyway, time to reset my signature to reflect 1K status. I will post on the thread if I get an invite for a challenge.... otherwise it's time to keep flying and hope to qualify again next year.

In case anyone is keeping track of data, make sure to include my data point:

PQD: $26,904
BIS: 124,234
PQM: 169,759
PQS: 121.5

Premium cabin travel: 25% of total
Refundable economy travel: 25% of total

There has never been any indication that UA cares about credit card spend for GS qualification. I am curious about your spend last year, however, as that may have affected things.

ORD - 1K for 8th consecutive year
$37K (all domestic UA)
225K PQM
BIS ~113K
Fares: 62% P, 21% Z, 13% A, 2% D, 1% B, 1% G

I could have pushed the PQD to ~$42K if I hadn't flown AA to/from MIA in favor of their better business class seat on that route but alas, based on the stats it doesn't seem like that would have mattered.

Try the appeal again. They had issues this morning but were able to eventually put me through for review.

Would definitely appeal it you have nothing to lose and you definitely are "on the line".

That could be the difference. I qualified with only $39k one year, but I had $51k the previous year.

Got it through with another agent and then the first agent called back as well and said she also sent it in.
