I don't think it went to Vancouver (YVR). Maybe you mean YYR, Goose Bay.

Medical offload.

Anyone know what happened to UA861 just now? Looks like it took off from IAD to GRU, almost immediately went into a holdtpattern for awhile and has now touched back down at Dulles, trailed by emergency vehicles to the gate.

Looks like they are not expecting a long delay before trying again

A relative of mine was working that flight. She has a long FB story about it. A couple in first celebrating 50 years of marriage turned into the husband dying on the flight, despite efforts of the crew to save him. It was a very sad read.

What's going on with UA180 today? I see it has diverted to NRT and will divert to SFO before scheduled arrival to EWR at 10:30pm tonight (8.5 hour expected delay)

This must have been very distressing to the pax and crew. But once the victim is deceased, why make a stop in a remote Canadian outpost to offload the body?

Mechanical diversion to NRT then crew change in SFO caused by earlier diversion to NRT.

I don't work for United Airlines, so I can only assume this is likely a policy. That, and maybe there was hope that continued life saving procedures would save his life.

Plus only medical professionals can determine and call it when someone dies, so technically the person is still "alive" until someone calls the death. Also, I doubt any passenger wants to continue flying when someone near them has died.....

That's why SQ invented the corpse cupboard for their ultra long-haul flights:

Looks like a fuel stop due to thunderstorms in the ORD area, perhaps anticipating an extended hold?

Usual story, late departure out of PVG causing a pit stop in SFO to re-crew.
