Possibly a contract issue with the seat maker rather than a UA/CO thing. If they contractually need to pay for the seats they might as well use them for a few years. Those things aren't cheap.

Sounds reasonable.
I doubt if there is even a floor plan for Polaris-style seating for narrower 767/787.

The 787 seats will continue to be the same sCO BF seats even as the new deliveries come this year, however the seating plan for the 767 is in fact complete and the 14 remaining 3-class 763s should be retrofitted to the actual Polaris seats this year.

I totally agree. The 787-8s and 787-9s fly some of the longest (and the longest, SFO-SIN) routes in the network. Not having the signature international premium product on those aircraft and those routes creates a significant branding issue, I think. Major product inconsistency!

From a business POV I can see the reason not to chuck out seats that are relatively new and still have a lot of life left in them... especially, when there are things like the sUA 777s in the air.

Looking at the numbers it appears 767 configuration would have 3 modules of Polaris seats vs. 4 on the 777. Estimating below seat an aisle width from layout.
777 width 231" 4 modules @ 46" and 2 aisles @ 24 = 232, real close to 231 width
767 width 186" 3 modules @ 46" and 2 aisles @ 24 = 186
787 width 216" = 3 and 4 modules don't fit unless modified
Note the sCO 772 show 22 inch wide seat vs. 20.6 on 787 in same seating arrangement, so maybe 23 inch Polaris seats can be slimmed 2 inches each.
Any chance of Polaris modules on windows and sCO pair in center - all aisle access.

If there are only ~3 789 deliveries left to go that are not already built/in the process of being built than I think it's wise to not have the Polaris seats installed at delivery and mod the entire 789 fleet in the future. That small of a subfleet would be a pain to manage for a long period of time since the 789s are at the bottom of the list for the Polaris seat installs and especially given the dispatch reliability issues UA has been having.
Should UA decide to take delivery of more 789s beyond the 3 that are likely to come in late 2017/2018 (official dates are TBD) then it may make sense to isolate those units to a couple of routes provided dispatch reliability improves.
It's a bummer to not get the Polaris seats on the new 789s but it's the best plan given circumstances right now. Imagine the anger on the board if a plane with Polaris seats was suddenly swapped to one without and folks were downgraded to Y as a result (I'm assuming there's a seat count increase coming).

Any update on 757 scimitars?
Also will the 787-10 get Polaris out of the box or is that too early to call?

Are they increasing frequency on GUM<>ROP<>SPN or is this as a MX replacement while one of the birds goes into check?
