So there's still time to burn GPUs to global first.

Strangely I will have travelled on UA's 747s more this year than ever before as they have been concentrated much more on the routes I fly.

The second/7 p.m. SFO-FRA-SFO (UA 926/927) frequency will end on 28 Oct for the winter season, e.g. not be replaced by a 777 - until next spring.

Looks like the dates of the final flights have changed. I was to fly at end of OCT to TPE. Was a 747. Now a 777.

In the wiki of http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...re-routes.html
SFO/TPE (UA 871/872) - Starting August 1, reverts to 3-class 772 on March 24, 2018
Data in http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...aft-gf-pf.html also seem up-to-date

I have an upcoming direct LX 777 J award flight. I now see GF availability (one stop in FRA) on a UA 747, seat 2k. 10k more miles, is it worth it to experience GF in a 747 at least once?

I feel like I'd be more tempted by the UD, but there's none of that available for when I'm travelling. That said I've never flown LX, whereas I've flown the 747 UD on other airlines...

Do 2k. F is always better than J. 2k is a great seat.

The UD on UA's 747s is all Business Class, not First Class. So you have two questions here - first, should you switch from LX J to UA F, for a few more miles? Or, secondly, should you switch from LX J to UA J, for a few fewer miles, and experience the Upper Deck.

To my mind, the food, the wine and the service are all far superior on LX. But the UA GF bed is better than the LX J bed, and the UA J bed is not dissimilar. So, in my book, if it's a day flight it would be better in both circumstances to fly LX, whereas I'd probably go with UA for a night flight (either in F for the better bed, or in J for the Upper Deck and spending fewer miles).

IMO the seat alone is worth the extra 10k miles.

I think the food is better on UA than LX, and at least a 50% chance the service will be better.

I asked a similar question recently for a flight I'm taking, but a bit different question - upper deck or first. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...000-miles.html
