Concrete details of Zodiac UK's issues have been pretty scarce. "Strain on engineering resources"? "Fiscal and operational challenges"? "Industrial issues"? All of those reasons have been cited but they are ambiguous at best.

The bottom line is it has been several weeks since a shipset of a Polaris interior has been installed on a UA 77W, with a few factory-fresh aircraft sitting in short-term storage at PAE.

All of the above but most likely the last one

Considering how badly Zodiac screwed up AA's 772 refit schedule and 788 deliveries, a year or two ago, yeah, I'd agree. Methinks the 744s may stick around a bit longer (fingers firmly crossed)

Just booked a SFO-FRA trip for my mother in October and her outbound is on the 747 in Y. She definitely is not looking forward to not having in-seat entertainment. I am hoping that they will switch that flight to a 777 (or maybe even the 77W) but in case that isn't happening, does the main cabin of the 747 still have movies playing on overhead screens in Y?

Yes. Literal overhead projectors replaced with LCD TVs.

Yes. It comes in handy when the device streaming doesn't work, and it often doesn't. I actually got a bit naustalgic realizing "hey, this whole dang plane is watching Fantastic Beasts together."

Work just told me they want to send me to NRT sometime in OCT to follow up with a customer and I can easily move flights around to return via ICN/HKG etc for whatever will be the last flight

I looked back a few pages but cant find what the current last normally scheduled flight is at the moment?

(Maybe time to add it to the wiki?)

Best solution:

Bring a tablet, a netbook, possibly even a laptop with your own entertainment @:-)

There is an outlet between the seats so even a laptop should last the whole flight.

Either that, or try to upgrade with miles and Ca$h

I was exploring about a trip to NRT (via SFO) but it is no longer 747 as early as early Sep. I'll have to explore LHR or ICN. I can't seem to find a one-way J (want the UD experience), one-way econ for <$2500 for TPE.

I wish it was that easy. Let's just say my mother is a bit challenged when it comes to technology. I think she'll be fine with the outdated main screen "entertainment".

It's an award ticket, so no upgrade unless we get lucky and get a cheap TOD offer.
