"Providing corporate customers from throughout the Bay Area and Silicon Valley nonstop service to the high-tech market in Israel has been high on our priority list at United," said Dave Hilfman, United's senior vice president of worldwide sales. "Now with the 787-9 Dreamliner, we're delighted to make it a reality."

2-4-2 plain sucks. Love the sUA seat on the 744 UD, but I avoid the sUA 772 whenever possible. Only time I half-enjoyed a flight in that cabin is when I got 6A, and 6B was blocked the entire flight.

917 to AKL was oversold on Friday the 15th. About 10 of us got operational upgrades and the last offer I heard them make for volunteers was $800 + hotel + next flight out tomorrow on Air NZ.
I don't get BF frequently (last night was a pleasant exception), but the major benefits to me of the CO style seat is better storage space around and below it, compared to the s-UA version.

The downgrade isn't the rear facing seats (prefer that anyways) it's that now only 8 people (and in F) get direct aisle access when before it was 16.
Also everyone in J loses out on places to actually put your items to readily access.

Well, the CO seat was announced 8 years ago next month, and didn't enter service until late 2009, as compared to a July 2007 launch date of United's IPTE product.
Some UA 777s are indeed newer installs than CO, but the respective products are essentially contemporaries.

More lie flat seats for sale to down under at peak seems like a good move to me...

That has nothing to do with the seat design. The sCO 752, 764, and 772 have the oldest software. The 789 has the newest. The 744 has an older version than the 763, sUA 772, or 28 BF ps 752.

I'm talking about seats in J in which you'll neither disturb or be disturbed by someone getting to the aisle. In this case the sUA 777 BF has 0.

Unfortunately the current BF product on the 772 is probably the worst hard product. I don't believe the 772 refits will be done by then, as I think the new Polaris hard product will only be starting on the new 77W's in December.
Agreed, unfortunately I'd booked on the 789 and it's now switched to a 772. We're now booked in rear-facing seats, and 38/40 seats are selected, so we don't have any options to move. Very annoying.

I also have 2 J seats on 1/5/2017 that I used awards for on the 787-9 that have now been switched to the middle seats on the 772 and I AM pissed. The wife and I would never have used our miles on this product for this flight. I wonder if UA will do anything to compensate us for this change.
I also called in and spoke to a rep about the change. She states that her computer shows that a flight change has NOT taken place and this flight was always scheduled for the 772. I emailed her my itinerary showing her I had seats 1A & 1B reserved (which would be UnitedFirst on the 772 and therefore impossible for me to reserve) and also United's own press release on their website on 7/1/2016 about the inaugural to AKL and the change in the winter to the 789 from the 788 all to no avail. I am beyond frustrated.
Not to mention I don't understand how I can go from having 1A & 1B reserved on the 789 to being placed on 7H & 7G on the 772 with no options for an outside pair of seats. Only United.
