Should have killed off the SYD->LAX flight as its much easier to re-accommodate passengers on that flight
According to Flightaware UA863 tonight actually was in flight to SYD and diverted back to SFO with a flight time of ~3:35 min. Not sure what the problem was. Why UA cancelled 870 is odd as 863 normally flies back as 840 and history suggests that it is 840 rather than 870 that UA normally cancels.

UA919 LHR-IAD 2 hours
UA808 PEK-IAD Canceled
UA844 GRU-ORD Canceled
UA855 LIM-IAH 1hr
UA2065 IAD-PEK took off, returned to field. I believe this was the protection flight for yesterdays IAD-PEK that canceled, gotta be some unhappy people on there.
UA122 IAD-LHR 2 hours
UA807 IAD-PEK 1hour
UA903 SFO-ICN 1 hour
UA990 SFO-CDG 1H 50 M

UA904 EWR-CDG 1H 20M
UA36 EWR-EDI 1H 20M
UA118 ORD-EDI 2H 30M still hasn't left
UA1007 IAH-BOG 1 hour
Ua901 SFO-LHR canceled
UA857 SFO-PVG 2H 25M
Wow, this list in incredible!

Add to it from yesterday:
UA936 IAD-ZRH returned to EWR after what I assume is mechanical since they were over Nova Scotia when they tuned back. Downline ZRH-EWR (UA993) cancelled for today.

Almost always the plane arrives on-time or 5-10 minutes late depending on sequencing.

No, these flights are routinely arriving well after 6am. And the delay lasts past the 30 or 40 minute mark, into an hour or more, meaning the flights arrive after 7am.

I've seen many times when the same plane circles back to the city it originated. Since neither plane makes the MEL run anymore I'm not sure there is a set plan for which plane goes where, and it only depends on what United wants each plane to do on any given day.

Question UA863 MX over Pacific Aug16-17, were you on it?

Hi,
Just about to leave for SYD from SFO tomorrow. Curious about the mechanical yesterday Aug16/17. Were you on it? What happened precisely?

Thanks,
JohnPaul

Not exactly. It's what one would expect (except for the cancels) when you have a couple hundred widebody flights a day alone. The list includes 752 flights too. If these lists are a complete look at international delays and cancels for the day, it doesn't seem out of line. Less than 10% of the flights have a significant delay or worse.

Also I don't believe flight 2065 yesterday ever took off and returned. FlightAware doesn't have a record of the flight. It probably never flew.

Been using LX for the past month for US-CH flights. Seats are horrible in business, but the choice is clear in light of UAL's continued unacceptable European flights.

It's what one might expect from UA on a worse than average day.

It's certainly not what one might expect from a competently run airline.

Delta had one cancel today, a 752 from GUM to NRT (but apparently 752s don't count )

757's should count. And the list IS pretty bad. What other airline cancels or has this many delays on international flights.

No, for any airline this is an embarrassment. Except United apparently.
