Didn't see this coming...seems like all upside though so that's ^

As a Hertz PC for this year (20+ stays) just know that it's very, very underwhelming.

A bit of back to the future...when Hertz and UA were owned by the same travel conglomerate. Westin was another division. Synergies never worked out and the units were spun off.

Nice, given I was a rental short of President's Circle for next year (though I was going to just rent a car locally for the shortfall). Of course, that means President's Circle will be even more worthless now than it already is..

Do we have to use a specific CDP on our Hertz rentals to receive the MP miles? That has always been a deal breaker in the past for Hertz promos, since I (and many others, I imagine) am required to use a corporate CDP.

This is definitely a change that I will like. As a MP Club card holder and a soon to be Platinum elite, I'll definitely qualify for the President's Circle. I usually go with whoever is cheaper between Avis and Hertz, but this may make Hertz my standard option from now on.

My apologies in advance for being slow, but what is a CDP?

CDP is a rate code or a discount code. For example, Costco has a CDP w Hertz that gives discounted rates.

This is indeed good news. Will want me go back to Hertz.

Currently Presidents Club with Avis

Given that almost all my rentals are for one day, this "could" be a change I'll like

I wonder how Chase feels about this considering they partner with Avis with the UA branded credit cards. Thought it seems like a positive. I've bounced between Avis First and President's club and I am not sure how President's circle compares to those.

Edit: Just saw that Chase is a part of the announcement. I have to think that this might signal the end of the UA Chase/Avis partnership including President's club membership for the Presidential Plus card holders.

Hmm. To get the benefits, you have to book through UA.com, which I find to often have higher prices than direct book. The tie-up doesn't extend to Thrifty, which has far better prices (even w/ rates rising recently w/ Hertz's purchase of same). Another UA tie-up that I won't use. This is definitely a deal for people who rent on OPM.

Reading about status benefits at other car rental places when you're used to National is like what I imagine it's like when people with a large private jet read about elite status levels on the airlines.

But I am pretty happy about this for those rare times when National isn't really an option.

Where do you see that?

Getting the status match is trivial and at best the language about earning the higher point levels is conflicting or vague.
