Winter Storm Hercules and Impact to UA's Operations (Travel Waivers 31 Dec - 7 Jan)

Was booked on LAS-SFO-FRA this morning and the flight 1697 out of LAS was cancelled. Reason unknown. Am now rebooked LAX-SFO-FRA on monday :-(
Any idea what kind of compensation I might get for a 48 hrs delay on a paid C ticket?

UA 944 cancellations

UA 944 ORD-FRA was cancelled on SA 1/4 and shows again cancelled on SU 1/5 ...... not sure if this is weather-related?
Subsequently the return FRA-ORD UA 945 is cancelled on SU 1/5 as well.
Edit: both FRA-ORD are cancelled for SU 1/5.

A brief note of thanks

Since IRROPS appears so be the SOP for this week - thought I would give a shout out of thanks to the staff at SFO. Daughter was flying in from SYD on Thursday, scheduled to fly out to BOS. SFO-BOS was cancelled. They rebooked her while she was still in the air to SFO, reapplied her upgrade, and got her out on Friday morning between snowflakes. Plus a hotel voucher.

Did a great job of handling a rotten situation. Kudos.

None most likely as they will blame it on weather. We here in the USA don't have consumer laws like you do in EU

whew.
sigh- well, the flights to which I was re-booked were cancelled (01/05 DSM-ORD-PHL),and was automatically re-booked to a flight on wednesday (01/08 same routing). Called United- reached a recording saying "call back at a later time"- omg. Used WineCountryUA's link and got to an agent after a 45 min hold- who placed me on a flight Monday afternoon on US airways (DSM-DCA-PHL). Crossing my fingers.

United originally rescheduled my flight for mechanical reasons, but now I've run into the weather mess. I was originally scheduled to fly IND-DEN-EUG. After three reschedulings and cancellations, now the system, which I assume is run by a computer that doesn't know what it's doing, says I'm scheduled to fly ORD-PDX-EUG on 1/9. Note that I am not in Chicago and have no way to fly out of ORD, since I am not there. Meanwhile the website says there are seats available from IND-ORD-DEN-EUG on 1/7. Why am I not scheduled on that? I've now been on hold on the Premier line for an hour and 45 minutes, so my quest to ask an agent is not getting anywhere quickly.

Can I just say UA's handling of IRROPS is due for a change I'd actually like to see. The ORD - BUF leg of our LAX - ORD - BUF flight scheduled for tomorrow was cancelled tonight; could not even get through on the phone (not even able to hold, tried for two hours) and since we're staying at the Sheraton I thought "well let's hop a shuttle and go in person".

They had 6 people handling five cancelled flights, then 5 people, then 4 people, then 3 people, then back up to 4! Really? There were at any given time at least 200 people in line, and we all know how long a reticket can take. I was in line for 1 1/2 hours and the line behind me was twice as long as it was when I arrived.

We're leaving on Thursday now instead of Sunday, because that was the first available non red eye flight - red eye only had us home late on Wednesday anyway (a no no with a baby and two kids in tow). Nothing on American, and could not route us to YYZ. Tried via IAD, IAH, ATL, CLE and CLT.

They need a little more slack in the system, especially in the winter. One or two days to get us home is OK but four is not.

I am now having an overpriced beer in the hotel bar. I still have to find a hotel for tomorrow through Thursday and Hilton's web site is down.

Atsak, I feel your pain. So far my delay in getting out is 6 days, and since my original delay happened before most of the weather hit, presumably there are many more in line behind me.

Almost 100% of UAX flights out of ORD tomorrow are cancelled.

such a mess... I got called into work to only work one flight (only supposed to be 2 hours), and ended up staying until 1:15am helping UA pax. After the line was down... the bus of bags showed up.

Everyone was in good spirits (thanks, btw ^ ) given the situation. I know it's "not my problem" and "ua should prepare for this!!!" but for the smaller stations, we still have to operate the rest of the operation using the manpower we have... so that means, when the other flights (non-ua) come in, we do our best to help out... but we have to remove people from the front line to keep everything else moving. Welcome to outsourcing to the lowest bidder.

Just a reminder for folks getting stuck for days on end: long-distance trains do exist, and they are a heck of a lot more resilient than air travel.

Winter Storm Hercules and Impact to UA's Operations (Travel Waivers 31 Dec - 7 Jan)

My flight to Boston has been cancelled today and was automatically rebooked for late Tuesday night. Obviously won't work. I'll try to get them on the horn and shoot for US. Can anyone tell me why AA and others all have flights scheduled out of ORD and UA cancelled just about everything until Tuesday??

I don't think they cancelled everything -- it's just that the few flights that are going in and out are booked with everyone in the world trying to get any flight due to the last storm.

JFK, LGA, and PHL are all experiencing significant weather delays this morning; JFK is currently shut due to a Delta Connection RJ that skidded off a taxiway while exiting the arrival runway.
