GUM-NRT-HKG-SGN has been solidly 738s because of high GUM-NRT and NRT-HKG demands, but since they increased GUM-HKG from 2x to 4x, roughly half the flights have been 73Gs (they can't really fill the extra 4.5 rows).

Let me guess they might just downgrade some HKG-SGN to 73Gs, probably more than the current GUM-HKG percentages because they need the 738s all the time for the remaining GUM-NRT route.
6 of the 753s are going to GUM next year to replace some of the 737 flying I believe and some of the 738s are coming over to the mainland.

WOW Jose thats a great change for GUM! GUM hasn't had any 757's since mainline CO took the Micronesian Based 752's back in 1998 or 1999. Do you think they'll shrink the First cabin from 24 down to maybe 12 or 14 as was the configuration of the Micronesian Based 752's? I look forward to boarding from door 2L (as they did in GUM) so the general flow of boarding traffic is alleviated

Not entirely sure but I would think they would leave the configuration the same as it is now 24F/189Y. As for 2L boarding idk about that because last time I was in GUM DL was using 1L boarding for it's 757s in GUM so perhaps UA will do the same?

You are correct, with the Delta flights (and previously NW), they often use 1L for boarding as Ive experienced this too. And you got me thinking and now I remember that it depends on the gates. For example, if you board at gate 10, 12, 14, or 16 for example, CO used 2L. But if it was gate 17, 19, 21 CO used 1L, so it just depends. Can't wait to welcome the 753's to GUM. Perhaps they'll use it to MNL too!?

HKG-NRT UA78/79 Gone?

Sorry if this has already been discussed but a search of this thread produced nothing useful. Was searching for flights and looks like this route is not available after the end of October? Anyone know whats up with that? A reservation search only gives the ANA codeshare or depending on day a connection thru GUM !

For my December trip I had to go HKG-ICN-NRT. At least it's in F on OZ.

Of course now just found it! I was searching HKG-NRT but then did a NRT-HKG and it showed up.

I'll read that to find out the reason.
Thanks,

Well gee, I could fly JAL or ANA or Cathay on a widebody, but nah, I'll take UA's crews on a guppy... can't imagine.

LH is going through a similar bloodletting on their TLV-FRA route. Downsize to the point they lose the high profit pax. No one sees the big picture these days.

It's a safe assumption that they see a bigger picture than airline passengers experiencing an equipment change on a specific route.

I would imagine because most of UA's customers simply fly US-HKG if they want to get to HKG.

And it's the intra Asia stuff that hurts in getting UA metal to obtain PQD. This forces more *A partner flights in several cases depending on where you are flying from/to.

UA dropping this flight will cut off 3 flights/year for me for using their metal.

Such a quandary for me to pull the plug on UA and start doing AA/CX so don't have to worry about 016 tickets to keep my upgrades and 1K status.

I'm safe for 2014 PQD but beyond that, who knows.
