So that's why that leg cleared before my 06:00 flight on the same day? And could that be why my other upgrades didn't clear?

My understanding of the bug is that, yes, it will cause segments to clear (up to) 24 hours early, even earlier than preceding segments.

Also, re the other segments, the classic response is that CPU availability is not the same as R availability. Sounds like you got a great agent, though.

Thanks ^ as that's good to know (and as to the agent, suffice it to say that she answered the phone "United 1k desk" )

UA is cutting capacity, but still essentially has the same amount of aircraft flying the same number of routes... (more or less).

Where are they redeploying the bigger aircraft? Because, I agree, I am seeing more RJ flights on the schedules of my usual flights.
Actually the mainline fleet is a little smaller. They have retired a bunch of 735s from CO, and have also retired some 757s and the first round of 762s. The old UA 763s went to replace the 762s for CO. The 739s they have gotten have not made up for the withdrawn capacity. Overall about 5% less domestic lift. BUT, the cuts have all been mainline, the RJ fleet is the same size. Routes that have never never been RJs that I fly (SFO-SEA, SFO-YVR) are now partially RJs, and routes that used to be a mix of planes, are now nearly or entirely RJs (SFO-PHX, ORD-DTW). All I can say is that I feel the pull down via downgaging and am booking accordingly (on other airlines)...

Congrats!

I have an intra-California flight tomorrow on an A320. I am #17 on the upgrade list.

Screw you, United. Next week I am on Virgin.

I was on that redeye last night, and got the CPU at about T-36. I didn't get the CPU on Friday evening though into PHX, but that flight was full of GS travelers (assuming the dozens of folks that pre-boarded were in fact all GS). All in all, I've cleared 13 upgrades of 22 domestic legs so far this year.
must have been something about that week because i'm looking at the same flights in may, and they're pricing in the mid 400 to high 500. As for CPU, I'm 1k and was in L booking code. was 5th on the list on the way out and 6th on the way back. I guess you and Chinatraderjmr must generally have higher fare codes to be cleared all the time. Like I said, I have not gotten any CPUs out of EWR and only 4 CPUs on Y and M out of LGA since the merger. This is really pathetic. On pmUA, I was about 95%.

Two segments on an itinerary where I'm a 1k companion (should trump my gold obviously).

R4/R8 and still not clearing for either of us... well under 72 hours let alone 96.

My LGA-ORD-LGA flights this week were F4/F5 all the way through the UG windows, yet R0 - then they magically opened up the R space at T-23 and dumped everyone into the rest of the seats.

Waiting for CPU for UA1635 PDX-DEN on Friday. It shows R9 and RN9 but doesn't seem to be any CPU activity.

How is it even possible to be 1/33? What are you flying?

Easily. I fly out of SFO and usually connect through DEN. I am 0-14 this year and last year was about 30% but second half of the year was 0-X. I am Gold and company makes me buy cheapo fares.

Easy. I am 0 for 9 this year (and four of those were in January when I was still a 1K).

All were mainline flights in CA between SFO and LAX or SAN. Last year, these were guaranteed upgrades. I had never missed one. Now it's not even close.

I have had a bunch of flights lately not clear until very close to departure, even though R>0 ever since the booking window opened. Is there anything that can be done? I've called united on a few of them and they just say it's "automatic" and they can't do anything.

A good example is DEN-SEA on 4/30. R=9 and has been that way since the booking window opened, and now we're just 1.5 days away. The longer these flights sit at R>0 the more chance for first class seats to go away with upgrade instruments.
