I was booked on UA870 on Monday 11 March, SYD-SFO and it was cancelled. Re-Booked for Tuesday 12 March, same flight, then United cancelled again. They now have re-booked me for Wed. 13 March, SYD-LAX. What's happening and can I get any compensation? UA said it was a "service problem".

Headed to the airport
I was originally booked on 870 3/10 that was cancelled, rebooked on 870 for 3/11 which was cancelled and now on 870 for 3/11. I am getting ready for the scrum at the airport as I imagine it is chaos with 3 days of cancelled TPAC flights. Hoping my flight actually happens.
On a side note, received an email to go to united.com/appreciation and was offered $600 e-cert, 30,000 miles or 20% off. I took the miles.

Haha, yes typo on my part. 840. Quite a downgrade from 13A to 19E. This will be a long flight.

I will be canceling my June award flight. Guess it's a bit selfish hoping they cancel the flight so i don't have to pay cancellation fee. Playing the odds.

Broken/Extra B747 in SYD??
Yesterday (Thurs) saw 3 United B744s in Sydney. 2 were parked on the remote stand and the 3rd taxied out and departed for Melbourne. Had one of them been stuck there for a few days, broken?

Perhaps the holdover from the problem(s) reported and discussed over in this thread starting with post 40?

on a % basis... its still less then 10% of flights (73 out of 730 one way) that get canceled on a yearly basis... your odds are week at best

Its not just UA that causes pax hassles on the transpac run to from Australia.
The Qantas service QF8 DFW-SYD via BNE went back to LAX on the 16th March and departed so late that it arrived late evening on the 18th March into Brisbane.
So late in fact that all flights had already left for SYD and the delayed a/c could not do the service itself because of the overnight SYD curfew.
A lot of unhappy customers bound for Sydney were put up for a short hotel stay in Brisbane and then left early next am-the 19th March and arrived at their destination some 24 hours late.
I have done some calculations on the above dates ( time zone issues ) but the basic facts are right even if the exact dates are out a day or two.

It looks like 839 LAX-SYD diverted last night, but then also arrived in SYD on time?

Oops didn't realize there were two problem aircraft. BTW isn't 105 one of the 744s that was intended for NW but delivered directly to UA?
