If the DidItClear website is going to be effective, it needs more members and trip upgrade data!

Please visit https://www.diditclear.com/ and include your trip experience with CPU's, RPU's, GPU's and any other means of upgrading available on United.

The better the data, the better the search results and experiential history.

Called an agent who said that if the RPU was retracted the passenger would lose the FC seat on the second leg. She said it's all or nothing.

That agent is an absolute idiot!! HUCA

Only kind thought I can have for the agent is they are thinking about the rule if RPU is applied to two segments, a single cleared segment will consume the RPU. If the agent was confused and thought you were trying to avoid that is the only way the answer makes sense or the agent was incompetent.

Not sure this is the correct thread to ask but.......

anyone have any experience what happens if you get a GPU extended then try to use the GPU shortly before it expires and your flight misconnects? Will they extend it again? or is it lost? I requested it be redeposited and requested a refund but the refund request has been pending for two weeks now. If it doesn't get done soon I won't have the chance to use it.

Generally GPU do not get extended except for the semi-regular 2 GPUs with extension to April . Getting extended beyond that is rare.

Not sure what a "refund" has to do with the GPU. Unused GPUs should redeposit in a few days, otherwise call MPSC.

I am booked on a roundtrip )SF0-IAD-SFO and used an RPU on the outbound leg a while ago to ensure I was upgraded (red eye and I want to sleep). I am now upgraded.
It appears I am now going to have to go to LAX first and then do a redeye from LAX to IAD.
All my business flights are done by a travel agency which does not look past the normal agency interface (i.e. they do not see my 1K status and so cannot put me in exit rows, cannot apply RPUs or GPUs etc.). So after they book I always to then go in (or call) and change seating or apply upgrades etc.
So, my main question is: do I need to call and get the RPU cancelled before I have the travel agency change my flights? I have other RPUs so I am fine if it take a while for the RPU to return to my account. But will it do so automatically if the travel agency simply changes my flights? Obviosuly I will have to call or log in after the flight is changed to apply a new RPU sought after upgrade (unless, as the case may be here I am booked in M for this red eye thus getting the 1K M instant upgrade). Just trying to figure out whether I need to first pull my old RPU before having the agency change the flight.

No you don't. (which is good because downgrading and not changing the flight at the same time can be difficult - if your original fare class is not available).

You won't have to get UA to pull the u/g before the TA changes the flights--but you may not get the RPU back after the change (even if your new flights aren't upgraded) until after you fly without calling MP.

You may even have to call UA (after the TA change) to pull the RPU so that you can use the M instant upgrade.

Okay so sorry if it is obvious and I'm just a total n00b because so far this year I've spent my GPUs except for one. 4 of them were on r/t's which cleared instantly and another on a 1 way…but I can't remember what the deal was when I booked r/t's.
Basically right now I am looking at dates for this coming Jan which have R space and would work for getting me to and from Europe. I have one GPU left that I would want to use on my NYC-EU TATL flight since it's a night/sleeping flight.
I am able to just apply a GPU to 1 leg of a r/t flight right now, correct? For the EU-NYC leg I am fine to wait and potentially suck it up in coach or apply my GPU later this year I'll get once I hit 1K again.

Looking at booking BOS-IAD-HNL but UA.com shows R=0 if searched together or R=0 for BOS-IAD and R=2 for IAD-HNL. Should I book the two segments separately using multi-city to ensure RPU gets processed on the IAD-HNL segment or is it ok to book BOS-IAD-HNL and apply the RPU online such that the RPU will clear automatically IAD-HNL and waitlist me for BOS-IAD?

You should be able to apply it online and clear the IAD-HNL immediately or you can call and have an agent do it if there are any issues. I had a similar issues on a flight LHR-ORD-CVG where R=9 on the LHR-ORD and R=0 on the 45 minute connection on UX. Since I was using my GPUs on a reservation I wasn't on I had to call in, but no issues with clearing it at booking/

I'm trying to Apply a GPU on a BOM-EWR-DEN-AUS flight.

1. Does all segements needs to Clear for a GPU to be applied?
2. What if the First Segment is Not cleared - Does the GPU get's credited back?
3. If few specific Segments Does not clear, what is the process to retract the GPU

  1. No, if an over water segment clears the GPU is used. If you apply GPU and the over water does not clear but you were upgraded on all the domestic segments, you get GPU back.
  2. In this case your BOM-EWR is your over water segment so yes, if you don't get upgraded on the BOM-EWR but do on the rest you still get it back.
  3. This I am not sure of other than calling the 1k or Cust Service Line to have them retract manually.

"over water segment" is not the actual criteria used.

Actual rule, if any requested segment is BF or GF and no BF/GF clears, then the upgrade instrument (GPU or miles) should be returned, even if non-BF/GF segments cleared. RPUs do not have this exception and neither do itins that have no BF/GF requested segments.

In a large number of cases "over water segment" and BF/GF are the same but not all.
