Due to the length of concourse B, a connection under an hour when the arriving or departing flight is a UA mainline aircraft, is not advised. If you arrive on the far west end and depart on the far east end, then allowing for the time it takes deboard the plane, and the 20 minute cut off when UA starts to cancel seat assignments, you are unlikely to make your connection. Of course sitting in the front of the arriving plane helps as does having no green tagged bags.

However, if both aircraft are United Express, then a 45 minute connection is acceptable because all United Express flights arrive and depart on the east end of concourse B. Due to construction some United Express flights are utilizing concourse A which requires a transfer via train.

I will be in Denver in spring and considering to fly to L.A. for a few days before returning to Frankfurt by Lufthansa. Is it sufficient to have approximately 3 hours from the scheduled arrival from L.A. and departure time to Frankfurt? If not, what time allowance do you recommend to change flights, i.e. get luggage, check-in and security for the long-haul flight? (off-topic: Which airline do you recommend?) Thx

DEN Minimum Recommended Connect Time (all UAL)

Schedule change just decreased our connection time in DEN from 1:14 to :59 minutes. (MSP-DEN-HNL) I have not flown UAL in quite some time and while I am in DEN 1-2x per year, it's usually on Delta so I have no familiarity with the way the UAL gates are set up. I have all sorts of issues with the DEN airport but those are mostly related to location and security, so should not impact this particular connection.

There are no later DEN-HNL flights that day, so a misconnect would mean an overnight in DEN v. a night in HNL unless we wanted to add on a connection at LAX.

There's an entire thread on this topic.

However, if both aircraft are United Express, then a 45 minute connection is acceptable because all United Express flights arrive and depart on the east end of concourse B

B-13 to B-95 is a hell of a run! Even when I make the connection my baggage doesn't.

Thanks for bumping the old thread! I searched and couldn't find it. I guess I'm on the bubble at :59 minutes. I was completely comfortable with 1:14. :59 makes me uneasy but I'm not sure I've got a good alternative.

I have a friend, an inexperienced traveler, connecting in DEN next month on a Tuesday morning. I know Term C but have never been in B.

MSY-DEN mainline to DEN-PSC Express. She has a 47 minute connection. There's no earlier MSY-DEN and the other DEN-PSC is 9 hours later.

I got her 2nd row of Y aisle on MSY-DEN to get her off the plane as quickly as possible and told her to go to her new gate as quickly as possible with no stops or dawdling. Also told her to get a cart if one is available but not to wait for one. Are there moving walkways? I've also told her to put essentials in her small carry on to be able to deal with a luggage misconnect for her checked bag.

If she does misconnect, what are her options? Does she just have to wait the 9 hours? Is she entitled to any compensation?

Is there anything else I can do or need to tell her to make this connection easier?

Her return has a 2+ hour connection so I'm not as concerned.

35 minute connect at DEN sufficient?

Looking at the following itinerary which is showing up in my company travel system:

IND 05:12 pm To DEN 06:10 pm
DEN 06:45 pm To SFO 08:32 pm

Haven't gone through DEN much. Is this itinerary feasible?

Thanks!

Tight connections are common at DEN, but that doesn't mean I like them. Someone else on here may tell you it's feasible, but I find it too much worry for whatever it's worth. Especially since you're going hub-to-hub, I would suspect you could find another DEN to SFO flight that puts more slack in your itinerary.

You could also try IND-ORD-SFO?

I hate ORD, so try to avoid it... Everytime I've connected in ORD there's been like a 2-3 hr delay...

Another alternative I'm considering is to spend another night and take the direct flight at 7am the next day...

If you aren't checking any bags, you could always play your hand.

Of course, you could try to pick up a segment or two--maybe DEN-IAH-SFO. The DEN-IAH trip is often served by Dreamliners and is great way to sit up front on 788 without spending coveted global upgrades or big bucks.

Is IND home or is SFO home? If IND is home then 7am nonstop is better.

Depending on day of travel, your DEN-SFO may be the last nonstop flight of the day. Tuesdays do not have then 10pm DEN-SFO flight. If your DEN-SFO is the last nonstop then a missed connection is problematic.

As for you DEN connection question, yes the 30 minute time is very doable. For the evening departure bank; DEN usually puts all the connections onto the east side of the Concourse B. Going from B15 to B88 is not doable unless you are an xNFL running back.

As for me, because I have backpack and rollaboard, I would not do a 30 minute connection as boarding will be near completion by the time you get to the DEN-SFO departure gate. At a minimum you will have to gate check 1 bag and potentially 2.

and it depends on the time of year...

frequent afternoon T-storms in the summer and snow delays in the winter (though generally way better than ORD). We had a trip from IAD-DEN-BZN next February changed to a 40 minute connection on the last flight of the day to Bozeman. Too close in winter. Made a no-cost change (because of the schedule change) to a 4 hour connection (next best option). Would rather spend the time reading a book (and burning some Chase club passes) in Denver than spending an unexpected night there.

You probably have a later flight option to SFO either to book now or hope for a reaccommodation fall-back if you miss your connection.

Also FWIW, United pads the landing/arrival time pretty heavily at Den Too.

Looking at todays UA562 (same time) IND-DEN, it has estimated landing time at 5:36pm and Gate Arrival at 6:10pm - 35 minutes. Looking at the earlier IND-DEN flight today that already landed, it was scheduled to land at 9:53am and Gate Arrival at 10:30 AM. The actual landing time was 10:07am, and Gate Arrival 10:10 am (so it landed 15 minutes late but arrived at the gate 20 minutes early still).

Point being, in reality its probably closer to a 45 minute connection.

It can be hit or miss. There should be a later DEN-SFO flight departs at 10pm or so for you to avoid staying overnight at DEN in case you miss connection. However, it will be the only flight for the night. Hard to say it would be better then transferring at ORD.
