:-: United's Global First Lounges located at LHR, JFK, ORD, SFO, HKG and NRT are for the exclusive use of passengers traveling in United's Global First or in International First Class on a Star Alliance member aircraft with more than two classes of service departing that day from that airport.

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/20895856-post36.html for documentation of the exclusion of non-UA F pax from the IAD GFL.

This has now been confirmed to be false and an incorrect denial by the IAD GFL staff per UA Insider - see http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/21700252-post535.html
Passengers must be holding a same day ticket for flights departing to/from a Trans Atlantic, Trans Pacific, Southern South America, Africa or a Middle East destination. Passengers connecting to/from other United/United Express flights will be admitted as long as the above requirements are met.
Global Services members can also use Global First Lounges when traveling in BusinessFirst or p.s. (JFK-LAX/SFO) BusinessFirst cabin.
A GS who arrives in BF or GF will be admitted to the GFL. A pax who arrives in GF (Global First - UA operated flight 3-class aircraft) will be admitted to the GFL. A GS or pax who arrives on other metal will not be admitted on that basis.

Are you saying (according to the rules) that I have been mistakenly admitted on numerous occasions to the GF lounges in SFO, LAX, and IAD when I returned on a GF flight and was awaiting my connecting flight? Or have the rules changed since 11/2013, when I last visited one of these lounges?

Thanks. Got me worried for a moment there. GFL/SFO awaits again in 2015.

I havent read through the whole thread but thought I'd give my 2 cents on the ones I've been to:
NRT - Meh. Thats my impression every time there. It seems just like the UC, except up a level. I've just been wholly unimpressed.
SFO - Like it a lot due to food/booze selection but always seems crowded.
HKG - Was just sort of in and out but I wasn't terribly impressed.

The SFO FC has never been crowded when I'm in it. That's what I like most.

SFO: With all the Asian flights leaving at similar times, it is often crowded, I agree. Good food choices, though.
HKG: Not hugely better than the UC it adjoins, but that says more (nice) about the HKG UC itself.
ORD: Meh. IAD: Meh+ (bumped for food). JFK: Quiet is the point. LAX: RIP.
Next month, for the first time, I'll get to try the LHR T2 one. I've heard good things...

I see in the wiki that passengers in GF may access the GFL and bring 1 adult or child to accompany them.
But I'm not clear if companion must be on the same UA flight? E.g., Can at NRT, can a UA GF passenger bring to the GFL a companion who is flying on NH?

The guest must also present a boarding pass for any Star Alliance flight departing from the local airport

Depends on the day, but I always find it fine or better. There's a rush midday for Asia, late afternoon/early evening for Europe, and late night for Sao Paulo/late LH flights. Unlike a couple of comments above, I like the ORD GFL and find it far far superior to IAD in terms of atmosphere and service. Especially after the refurb last year. IAD still looks like 80s décor and the dragons are awful.
