Airport Security Gets Easier for Select Frequent Flyers

Does anyone know why UA has taken a "pass" on offering this in the early stages of the program? Looks like Delta and AA raised their hands quickly.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say it was merger-related. Part of the PreCheck trial involved those airlines providing data from their FF rolls. UA & CO were still in the middle of the merger (and, thus, were two separate FF programs with LOTS of redundancy, thanks to the matching program), and probably didn't want to ALSO deal with TSA while they tried to get their house in order for 3/3/12.

I'll second Critic's explanation. It almost certainly had to do with integration & merger issues; UA knew they'd have their hands full (though I dare say they severely underestimated how full they'd be) with other issues.

You can now sign up to be considered for inclusion in the programme if I read it right.

Go to your profile in your MP account, and under "saved travellers" is a link for TSA pre=screening program.

For me, I go to:
  1. My Account
  2. Scroll down to "Profile" section (grey box)
  3. Click "Manage Profile" link
  4. Look for "Saved Traveler" section (in the grey box)
  5. Should be a "TSA Prescreening Program" link at the far right of the saved traveler info

Once you click that link, you can provide your pass ID (e.g. NEXUS or GE #) and choose to opt in.

From reading the page, it sounds like you don't need a pass ID to participate.

True, but presumably being a member of a DHS Trusted Traveler program will result in more often getting the expedited security selection... then again, this is the TSA we're talking about...

Thanks. Turns out I'd signed awhile back.

This can't happen soon enough.

And that's bolshoi! It should be a pass every time. You have probably been vetted better than the average TSA lackey who got their job off a pizza box, if you are a Global Entry card carrier. The card can be verified with the visual person in front of the TSADC and should be end of story, move on. But no, "We have ways of making you do our bidding!"
