So, up to 750 miles short should still get you Platinum.
Maybe yes, maybe no. Just because they can (emphasis added above) doesn't mean they will. Counting on the generosity of a corporation is the shortest path to disappointment.

Keep trying OP. LOTS of threads on FT about Elite Maximizer. NOT an exact science.

OW offers come in 500 mile increments (and usually atleast 3x the base miles) and RTs in 1,000 mile increments. the best you can hope for is 2,500 and that will likely take multiple tries.

DH is 300 miles short of platinum status (not 3,000- just 300!!)
can someone help me with some options?
tried buying a premier accelerator but its giving me options for $1818 and 2,160...he only needs 300 miles so thats insane to pay...any ideas??

sub-500 mile (such as SFO-LAX) OW could be as low as 1,500 -- that is the lowest any elite has recently reported.

You can try calling and ask if 300 miles short is enough or risk waiting till later to find out.

No idea what differences it would make, but you could try something like CLD-LAX which is only 86 miles one way - the offer might be lower as a result.

Base on reports on FT, the base miles (500 mile min for elites) is a factor in the offered miles. So the real short hops don't help (and neither hurt).

Last night around 1130pm, I bought DCA-EWR OW (199 flight miles). Paid $410 (that fare is fully refundable). I was 1925 mi from Plat.

My Accelerator offer came back at $680 for 1500 PQM.

Buy a DCA-EWR run for 12/31 (doesn't matter if you live near the flight endpoints; you're going to refund the ticket anyway). Expect to pay $0.42 per PQM. If you need 300, the minimum you'll be offered is 1000PQM, or $420.

Good luck!

Now that 2014 has arrived (at least on the East Coast), it seems a good time to close this megathread. Members are welcome to start a new one (hopefully, with a wikipost) for the new year.

Thanks,
