Daily data:

Cases 146,390 (162,572 last Saturday)
Deaths 313 (154)
People vaccinated up to and including 7 January 2022:
First dose: 51,919,815
Second dose: 47,632,483
Booster: 35,273,945

The rolling seven day daily average for cases is now up 10.6% on the previous week and the same measure for deaths is up 38.3%. The rolling 7 day daily average for deaths is 181.4 today. As usual the Welsh are not reporting today. The cases for England continue their downward trend of the last few days.

I have been watching the cases data for Australia for the last few days. They have so far recorded 877,902 cases since the start of the pandemic. 13% of those were recorded in the last day. I thought about mentioning this yesterday when the figure would have been 10%.

they are an expectation of the Scottish Government. You should take a test at the start of every day on which you plan to attend in-person teaching and/or plan to socialise with those from other households, and also take a test at the start of every day following either of those activities"

Again, that's a lot of tests.

Pretty normal in Scotland I would say. Myself and those I live with take one a day. Just now when one of us is positive, I'm doing two a day.

You're kidding? If not, well, I am speechless.

One a day should really be the maximum (and that's what I'm on). Even those working at Porton Down are on one a day and let off testing on Saturdays.

yeah but it’s optional so you really don’t have to unless you want to.

’expectation’ and ‘should’ lol I think they are playing a bit of a power trip with their language with no consequences if you ignore it

i think two a day is a bit pointless - you are really wasting tests at that point. one a day is more than enough.

yeah we have got to stop wasting so much money on this now the peak is over. The taxes are high enough as it is without Pfizer CEO pushing a booster every few months and test test test.

I've said all along that this is a very clever virus and it knows better then to mess with someone's Saturday night! :)

That's pretty standard here in Scotland - we test on any day we expect to leave the house or see others. Good practice to, and I reiterate that I've never not been able to order tests.

But it really does take a special type of self-centred person to do that.

no it’s actually saving the taxpayer money so it’s doing a service to the nation. Testing every time you go out is a serious waste of resources

Not sure if the source is correct but I saw this graph about Delta vs Omicron in France, which shows that Omicron has flared massively, but that Delta cases aren't actually waning. So whilst Omicron is responsible for a large percentage of cases, Delta is still there in absolute terms. Do the residents here have data for the UK which would point to the same trends?

I'm currently living with someone positive and all the experts talk about how with Omicron in particular you can go from negative to positive very quickly. For only a few days, it seems worthwhile in order to see if I catch it off him or not.

(Somehow, it seems to be a no.)
