Yes. Mentioning the R word to test companies is rarely going to get a good response.

What happens with our positive day 2 result in terms of the flight? I guess it'll be interesting to see if I will be contact traced from the flight since he was next to me obviously. We also already entered the fight in the NHS Scotland contact tracing system after reporting a positive lateral flow.

Took him for another PCR today as a confirmatory PCR.

Really want to know which variant it is though in case it's still delta in the UAE.

Myself and the other person in the household are, somehow, still negative!

Pro tip .. avoid big pharmacies, that's where everyone goes. I've always had success by going to more local, smaller pharmacies.

Arriving at LHR on the 10th from the US. What’s our best option for lateral flow tests?

If you are staying for more than a couple of days then go the postal route. Get kit(s) delivered to where you are staying. This company is charging £12 per test:

Daily data:

Cases 179,759 (189,213 last Thursday)
Deaths 231 (332)
Patients admitted 2,078 (1,519 on the 26th)
Patients in hospital 17,988 (11,980 on the 29th)
Patients in ventilation beds 875 (868 on the 29th)
People vaccinated up to and including 5 January 2022:
First dose: 51,874,548
Second dose: 47,565,340
Booster: 34,834,288

The rolling seven day daily average for cases is now up 29.3% on the previous week and the same measure for deaths is up 56.1%. The rolling 7 day daily average for deaths is 155.0 today. All nations are reporting data today and hopefully we are mostly caught up by now. England continues its very slow rise in cases (150k/152k). Based on today's data, the number of daily cases in the UK (262.7 per 100k) is now below that of Australia (279.5 per 100k).

Can you get the 2 day test at the airport (Bristol), and do you have to make a pre-booking? Anyone have any experience at this location?

You will need to make a booking with someone to get the code for your PLF. There is very little advantage to being tested at the airport assuming you arrive after the rules change at the weekend and also assuming you are vaccinated. Postal tests are easy and cheap. I do not know what testing is available at Bristol.

Thank you. Perhaps I can just go to a local pharmacy and pick up the tests? Only trouble is that doesn't give the code for PLF.

you need to order a day 2 test from a private supplier, and it needs to be sold explicitly as a day 2 test.

simplytest me and testing fo rall seem to get mentioned a lot on here. randox are also a large supplier and you can order to collect from various places. you should be able to get something in the £12-20 range.

tbh i have found ordering them to be delivered in the post has worked well for me.

Yes, you need a code for the PLF to complete and you won't get on an aircraft to the UK without a PLF. You can click and collect some test kits, to give an example, but pharmacies tend to only stock the free NHS ones, rather than selling one. So Randox will probably be selling Lateral Flow tests from a BP and Texaco petrol station in Bristol, to give one example of many. But if you can get the postal service to work for you it's probably the cheapest and most convenient way to handle this.

Just FYI, Randox doesn't have the 2 day lateral flow test available yet. Site says "coming soon".

Well no-one should be using them just yet! Next week they should become available. This is an area where booking well in advance is a mistake, things change overnight.
