Of these people who ended up in hospital, 0.65% were unvaxxed, 22% had one dose and 3% had the two full doses. But of the total number of Delta cases, the number of fully vaccinated people who ended up in hospital is 3 out of 12,383, so 0.024%.

While we're on the topic, I've taken the gov.uk data for cases & admissions for this year, and compared then with each other on a weekly basis. It's a bit artificial as I think that a case on Monday =/= a hospitalisation on the same day, at least not necessarily, but I think it paints a picture. The hospitalisation data runs up until the end of May. Here is the view:

Unless I made errors you see a nice downward slope; the ratio in the last week is 3.7%; that's almost a third of what it used to be in winter, proof I think of the efficacy of vaccines. And the more we get fully vaccinated the better it's going to be methinks.

This is very encouraging! Also it may understate the benefit of the vaccine. Some new data reported in the US say that new variants are sending unvaccinated people to the hospital in higher proportion than previously. Serious illness for the fully vaccinated is literally looking like a one-in-a-million stroke of bad luck. (So far 🤞)

"In England, an estimated 8 in 10 adults, or 80.3% of the adult population would have tested positive for antibodies against coronavirus." - ONS.
It's both vaccination and natural immunity.

If we won't unlock at this point, we probably never will.

Over 1,000 cases reported in Scotland today for the first time since February.

Hi,

Not good news . Also the euro 2020 fan zones will not be required to have covid tests for attending unlike England

Also the Scottish govt blocked a domestic only cruise from docking at gourock this morning.

20% of adults, plus all the under-18s, is still quite a lot of vulnerable people while infections are rising rapidly, as they are at the moment.

Britain is mostly unlocked. What is it that you want to do but are not able to?

I cannot believe the fan zones are going ahead in this way, given the heavy restrictions Glasgow specifically has been under for so long. Feels yet again like football has been given another pass, after Rangers fans broke every single restriction and trashed the city consequence-free in March and again in May.

We all have things we would like to celebrate, but the rest of us have done so responsibly. I don't imagine someone who has had to cancel a wedding, graduation or attend a Zoom funeral feels particularly happy about the special privileges being continuously extended to football.

(note: this is not to rag on football. for every irresponsible fan there are five responsible ones)

I'm a huge football fan and I agree with this.

Is the Vaccine Queue calculator crap now? Every time I run it Group 12 is pushed back further.

Amen. It really feels that when it comes to the footie there's a collective absolution of all responsibilities. The whole Euro thing is mad; not as mad as what's happening with Copa America in Brazil but bonkers nonetheless.

Late today, that's the pain of having to work for a living for a change. Daily data:

Cases 7,540 (4,330 last Tuesday)
Deaths 6 (12)
Patients admitted 123 (123 on the 27th)
Patients in hospital 1,024 (923 on the 31st)

People vaccinated up to and including 08 June 2021:
First dose: 40,710,319
Second dose: 28,540,844

The rolling seven day daily average for cases is now up 66.0% on the previous week and the same measure for deaths is up 43.5%. The rolling 7 day daily average for deaths is 9.4 today.

Is there much of a risk we go backwards on the roadmap...? Political suicide for Bojo although he seems to be exempt from voter repercussions for anything lately

At the moment, I'm thinking the government will probably not reverse back from where we are but may well change or delay the next step. Continuing to insist on social distancing and face masks indoors, for example, may well keep (or at least put) some sort of a lid and the current daily rises. For the sake of the economy, the government might well be forced into differentiated treatment of vaccinated vs none (or part) vaccinated. I think the government should consider offering vaccination inside secondary schools before term time ends.

In other news, I'm off to London at the end of the month. Got a very reasonable price on Premier Inn stay. Two weeks where one week will be working remotely* and the other a holiday. Please place your bets on whether or not the current advice regarding travel outside of Greater Manchester will become ORDERS.

* Yes, fifteen months at the Four Walls Resort (in Argate) is wearing me down and I'm in need of a change of scene.

I am not sure why but my 22 year old just got a text and 5 minutes later was booked for Pfizer dose 1 at the Waitrose Sports and Social club in Bracknell for this Sunday. Woo Hoo!!!

We will sort out second dose at home in August or in September in St. Andrews.

Glad to hear this VickiSoCal! I'm sure there won't be too much of a problem with getting her a second dose, wherever that will be, given the improving availability and the fact that Aug/Sep is still a way away.
