On my first restarted experience with CLEAR I was processed as usual at the kiosk but there was no escort to the "front of the line" for TSA. I was behind about a dozen other pax, several of which were newbies and/or kid equipped, resulting in a wait of at least another 5 minutes to pass through screening.
Was this a one-off? Are people getting the escort to the front of the queue? If not, I don't see a whole lot of value since I can use Premium Pax lanes at DEN and get there just as quick. |
I don't get this program. I didn't get it before and I don't get it now.
The airlines have priority security lines for frequent flyers. I don't like that they sell access but scanning passes in line I've never noticed anyone that didn't qualify based on their status. I'm sure there have been some however. I'm in NEXUS and Global Entry. I'm Premier Exec and will be 1K in a week. Why does a company like CLEAR even exist? It just doesn't make sense. If anything I should be able to use my NEXUS and Global Entry membership for domestic travel. I predict that at some point frequent flyers will begin to complain and the airlines, in their best interest, will listen and there will be trouble. Some airports barely have enough room for security lanes as it is. Where is there room for a CLEAR lane in terminal 1 at ORD? This terminal is 100% United and they overflow into terminal 2 which is American. Continental is also in terminal 2. I jumped around the thread and there seemed to be mostly folks that don't have high elite privileges like Premier Exec and 1K posting positive comments. |

"In the old program, a person from Clear helped to prepare bags for screening (remove laptop, liquids, etc) and then would insert the Clear member at the front of the Xray screening line. This was a service I really appreciated, but that wasn't available in Denver this morning. I understand operations are just getting restarted, so is this part of the service that I should expect from Clear in the future?" Her response: "We are still working on our tweaking our services to make sure the needs of our members are met. Each airport varies in the policies and procedures but we continue to work on a system that works the best. Thank you for your patience." In other words, don't expect it anytime soon. I agree that this was one of the great benefits "excuse me, may I insert a Registered Traveler?" It's still a great service on Monday morning when the elite line at DIA is super long. |

I signed up for CLEAR due to the fact that there is NO ELITE LINE @ MCO. As a 1K, I'm shocked that UA has no sort of elite line! I even talked to a director @ MCO and she told me that they don't let the airlines have elite lines. When you have 500 kettles visiting MCO, the place can be packed! Last December, I had to wait for 20 minutes, just to put my items through the xray. When I got up there, it took another 10 because some kettle had no clue that they couldn't bring their giant bottle of shampoo, soap, conditioner, and sun screen through. I have had chats with UA personnel for a very long time about MCO. To this day, nothing has happened there.

If I follow you correctly, MCO made a deal with CLEAR that I assume includes some type of revenue arrangement and but they (MCO) will not allow an airline type elite flyer lane?

I, too, signed up with Clear because of MCO but I also found that at many airports, SFO for one, Elite lines can be long too. With the old CLear at SFO, there was a separate entrance for members and then you get escorted to the front of the line at the X-ray machine. It could be much, much faster than the regular Elite line.

I just used CLEAR for the first time this morning. I had thought about using it at MCO last week, but the CLEAR line led straight to the Nude-O-Scope..
There was only one person ahead of me when I was there, and my BP was quickly marked. The agent inserted me card into the machine, and I had a scan of my left index finger taken. When I finished, they opened up the lane for me, and I was free to pick any xray line. I would really appreciate if CLEAR had a service to put you at the front of the line. There were a bunch of pax that had no clue what they were doing, which really slowed things down. |
And that is why I won't renew. They have to provide escort or there is no value. Send that feedback in. I'm doing it too.

SFO 1K - agree with you completely. I live in Denver and used the CLEAR lane a couple of weeks ago and had the same experience you did. Once they checked me in, I was thrown in the security lanes with everyone else. They didn't even have the tables with bins set up in the clear area like they used to. If they don't reinstate the "concierge service" (I think that is what they used to call it, where they took your bins and inserted you into the security line) then it isn't worth it for me either. I am fortunate enough to travel OUT of Denver during non -peak periods now so this does not offer me any advantage over the elite line that currently exists.

I would suggest that all of us send in comments to CLEAR about DEN! I'll be using it again on Friday, so I'll see the employees at the CLEAR lane would know if there is something we could speak to about getting that service back.. |
On the clear website, there was a place where you could send comments in regarding how to make the service better - it may have been on the Denver page, can't recall. I did send my feedback in right after I took that flight but didn't ever hear anything back from teh company. Wouldn't hurt for others to send in the same feedback, but let us know if you find out a better way for our voices to be heard. My Clear account is due to "auto renew" in about 3 weeks and I don't want to bother paying for another year if they don't plan to change anything.

No More Concierige Service with CLEAR - it's official
Here is the response I got from CLEAR today from their Director of Member Services:
"Thank you for your comments regarding CLEAR. CLEAR offers speed, security and most of all predictability at the airports. You never need to leave 2 hours ahead of time because you can always be sure with CLEAR you will get right through to the checkpoint. Although things vary at each airport, we continue to make changes to better the service for our members. Due to various reasons, the concierge service that the other company offered is no longer part of the CLEAR service. Please let me know if you have any additional questions." |

Wow. No concierge service destroys the value proposition of Clear for me. Unlikely that I'll renew.
