I used CLEAR on Tuesday at DEN, and had a very good experience. Nobody in line for CLEAR (five people got there as I was going through), and then the far right xray/wtmd lane (no NoS ^^) was open, with nobody in line. Not sure if this was just for CLEAR, but I had no wait for the WTMD.. I got through in 30 seconds from entering the line, to getting my luggage from the xray.
I hope this stays the same when I fly out of Saturday. |
Had another great experience with CLEAR at DEN. Both agents greeted my by name, even without seeing my BP or CLEAR card ^ One of the them told me that SFO is in the plans for a CLEAR line.. No other specifics, but sometime this year.
Xray/WTMD had no line, so I got through check-in/CLEAR/Security Theater in less than three minutes ^ Would have been much faster if I had used the elite line, which had 35 people waiting for one TDC  |
Today I was informed by the Clear supervisor in DEN that they are not suppossed to let me through the Clear lane if the name on my boarding card is FIRST INITIAL, FULL MIDDLE NAME, FULL LAST NAME. He indicated that this is a TSA rule but that he would make an exception this time.
I informed him that this is how my name has appeared on my boarding pass since I was a child and today was the first time anyone at any checkpoint has ever questioned it. He again stressed that this was a TSA regulation. Really? Strange that the TSA has NEVER mentioned this to me. While this naming convention is not standard, it's certainly not uncommon. With no concierge service, only 2 airports, and now scrutiny over my name I see no value in renewing my Clear Card when it's time. |
So I called Clear customer service. They said that the Clear Lane supervisor was wrong and that they should accept FIRST INITIAL, FULL MIDDLE NAME, FULL LAST NAME as no problem to go through the Clear lane. They are sending new instructions to the lanes about this. They extended my membership 30 days as a good will jesture (they offered, I didn't ask).

For once, TSA agrees with you:
Due to differences in boarding pass systems, boarding passes may not always display the exact name you provided when booking your travel. The name you provide when booking your travel is used to perform the watch list matching before a boarding pass is ever issued, so small differences between the passenger's ID and the passenger name printed on the boarding pass, such as the use of a middle initial instead of a full middle name or no middle name/initial at all, or hyphens and apostrophes should not cause a problem for the passenger. On the other hand, there is this requirement for Secure Flight: Under Secure Flight, airlines require that passengers provide their full name, date of birth, and gender when making a reservation to travel and will request a passenger's Redress Number and passport information if available. Are you providing your Full name? |
Well, agreeing with the TSA in any way is a first!!!
The travel agent provides my first initial, middle name, last name - this matches my photo id and my ff account. This hasn't caused any trouble until today. |
new signup
I signed up for Clear recently. I enrolled at Orlando airport, near the B gates. My flight that day was on the A side and they couldn't give me a card right away (because the card gets mailed to you) so the guy called over to his Clear colleague on the A side so that when I walked over from the signup area near the B gates, the Clear worker got me through a special families/(employees?) line where there was only 1 person waiting to have their ID checked, and then the Clear worker walked me to a non-nudoscope scanner. The whole thing took maybe 2 minutes. I was escorted to the front, cutting the line, but there was a natural gap when I was escorted in because the fellow who was next in line wasn't quite ready to have his stuff go through the conveyor belt. The normal passenger lines were long that day, too.
If that is the speed I will experience on future visits, it will be well worth the money. I called my wife to tell her to sign up before our next family trip. |

CLEAR refunded me the fee for this year, so if the Concierge service does not return, it is very unlikely that I would renew.. The CLEAR lane at MCO leads straight to the NoS, which is a big -100 for me.. |

bad customer support
So, I recently signed my wife up for Clear. She applied the day after I did (albeit at a different office) but her card arrived several weeks after mine. It definitely arrived after the period specified on their website. When she called to inquire, she got the standard rep response to wait xyz business days. When that passed, Clear started telling her that that's only when they'd promise to ship the card. Each time she called, she got a different estimated waiting period. Finally, after missing a trip that she wanted to use the card for, and after being totally frustrated by Clear's customer service, she called them to cancel her membership. She was initially told that it could not be cancelled. Then, a different person later said it could be cancelled but then he tried to assess a $30 fee, which was only mentioned afterwards. I eventually asked my assistant to help out. She had a couple conversations with Clear and during the process she felt like she was misled at certain points. Eventually, after considerable hassle, she was able to secure a full refund. After all of this, my wife's (now invalid) card finally arrived the next day.
I am still a fan of Clear at MCO. I have not cancelled mine. But be prepared to wait awhile for your card and God help you if you need to call them for customer service. :td: |
If anybody had any other problems with CLEAR, send me a PM. I have the phone number and email for the director of customer service in NYC.

new email promo
I received an email today from CLEAR with another promo. This signup link gets a new user one free month. They're only in Orlando and Denver so far, but it has saved me some time going through airport security at MCO. Disclosure: that referral link gets me added time to my current membership.
