Bump for this. Appreciate any suggestion as to what the proper procedure is. NEXUS site is not very clear on this specially vs. reports I've read here before that some folks have had trouble when only updating GOES with renewed info.

My approach when I renewed my passport was to pop in nexus office in montreal airport while visiting there and let them do the update verification themselves after I did my personal update on GOES website and it worked well for me @:-)

No experience here, but upthread it was reported multiple times that the CBP sticker is no more.
Also my impression is that GOES updates the US system but may not inform the Canadian side. Suggest stop in NEXUS office on next time through.

Thanks, that's what I felt I should be doing as well.

Curious, what happened to the CBP sticker? Thought it was supposed to identify you when using Special Services desk or something to that effect. Not that I've ever used it.

Yet another interesting NEXUS experience. Came up to the Highgate Springs crossing this afternoon and had a decent sized line entering Canada, so I drove up to the NEXUS lane, waved our cards in front of the reader, and pulled up to the unmanned booth. Pushed the call button, and a few seconds later I hear the little camera moving to look in to the car. The guy asked the usual questions.. How many people in the car, if we had purchased or received anything while in the US. I said about $500 worth. Asked how long we had been gone for, and if I had placed a card in the box. I said no. He then asked if I knew because I didn't place a card in the box that I needed to make a verbal declaration. I said yes. There was a long pause, after which he said "okay", and the gate opened.

Now I had thought that when I said the value, if they cared, they'd ask further about what I had. I'm not sure if he was expecting me to start listing everything after asking me if I knew I needed to verbally declare. I love the speed of NEXUS but I'm always fearful when I use it that I'm going to say or do the wrong thing and have it revoked. Personally I'm not a fan of the whole unmanned booth, but what can you do..

Neither did I. There's an option along the lines of "document not recognized" that brings up an entry form. Quite convenient!

I didn't know either. Wife found this out when it wouldn't recognize her Greencard at YYZ. However, she typed in the number & it still wouldn't recognize it - said she was not a member of GE. Walked over to the next machine and it read the card and let her complete the process like normal.

A bit confused and worried guys, hopefully you can clear things up.

I'm a US Citizen who just applied for NEXUS. Partly because I see myself doing Canada trips frequently over the next few years (by air), and mostly because I see plenty of Int'l travel in the next few years outside of Canada, and wanted to save money by spending $50 on NEXUS instead of $100 on GE, because NEXUS gets you GE at no additional cost...

...but can I only use GE if flying into the US FROM Canada? Or if I say, fly from Australia to the United States, can I use my GE membership gotten from NEXUS? Worried I "wasted" $50.

Also, can anyone tell me about the "proof of current residence" required at the interview? I have a Maine Drivers License, but current address is in Minnesota. I do not drive, have car insurance, or have a registered car, and thus don't have a Minnesota DL yet. I pay rent to a landlord, but do not get receipts. I just cut him a check. Would a bank statement with current address be enough for proof of current residence?

If you have GE, you can enter the US from other countries on GE, not just Canada. For proof of residence, a few bills, bank/CC statements, tax returns, etc are fine IMO.

I can tell you with certainty that you can definitely use GE arriving from anywhere; I am a Canadian with Nexus and used GE in May to enter the US in Los Angeles on my way home from Australia.

I used my license for proof of residence. I think they are wanting you to prove you live in either Canada or the US. So I would get your DL switched out for a MN one (is that not likely legally required ??? It am pretty sure it is here in Canada if you move provinces you have a time limit to update your license and car registration IIRC) if you can, but I can't see why a bank statement wouldn't be accepted. Or do you have a tax record or something? Take what you have. It will be weeks before you get an interview anyway, so maybe you can get your MN DL by then?

flyquiet Jul 8, 2013 12:40 am

The poster didn't specify if the current address was a permanent move or temporary. A lot of students have DL at mom's house even when it's in another province. I imagine the same for temporarily deployed professionals.

You may have some utility accounts (electricity, gas, phone or TV/internet service) that show your address on the bill. You could show paycheque stubs or other employer-issued document that has your home address on it.

A DL is not required. You can have NEXUS before you turn 16. My daughter is >16 but does not drive. She had bank statement, report card from school, and health card (the latter turned out not to have an address on it. Odd. Pretty sure mine does.)

If you did not use your DL as proof of address in the application, just don't offer it. (And if you don't live at that address any more, it would have been better not using that as proof of address. It's not about proving you once passed a driver's test. It's about proving where you live. And you don't live there.) A lot of people have posted recently about removing the DL from their records to avoid the need to update when the DL expires.

You cannot revise your application online but you can, and are expected to, bring any revisions with you to the interview. That includes proof of different address. If you input an address in Minnesota and a Maine DL, they may have questions for you on that awaiting your interview anyway.

It's a permanent move. In all honesty, I've been lazy. I don't drive here in MN. I take the light rail to and from work. I don't have car insurance, don't have a car. It's a pain in the ... taking the light rail and two buses to go take a paper test to get a MN license when I don't drive, and won't for the foreseeable future.

I'll bring a bank statement (and a copy from the USPS address change form).

Canadian Nexus Kids using GE??

We are a Canadian Citizen family of 4 (including 2 boys age 4 and 2), looking to apply each of us a Nexus Card just to bypass the queues especially at US airports. While we are always traveling from overseas via US then back to Canada.
After reading previous posts, since little kids cannot actually finger-scanned or iris-scanned; nor our Canadian passport will attached a GE stickers like those in US. Anyone knows how are we (especially the kids) going to use GE machines/lines while entering US from third countries?? Or should we go back to the regular line?? Thanks in advance!!

kaiotes Jul 9, 2013 3:26 pm

do you declare that you have nuts if you are bringing food items like almonds and peanuts and such?

flyquiet Jul 9, 2013 5:31 pm

collegeidol, you should ask in your interview, for reassurance on the process, but I believe you simply use the Crew line. Others with wee kids can correct me if I am wrong.

kaiotes, I definitely declare nuts myself. They're "seeds", right? They may be roasted and oiled and salted past the point of being able to grow, but the form may just say "seeds and plants" and I don't ever want to be in a "yes but..." defensive conversation. To avoid declaring and the Secondary, I tend not to bring them any more (or buy post security).

I do not have a driver's license nor any other government issued ID with an address when I went for the Nexus interview at YYZ. I remember bringing along a credit card statement and maybe even an income tax statement just in case. I was able to use just the credit card statement with no problems. If using a bank statement, I would bring something original vs a photocopy or online printout.

YUL getting new express lane for Nexus at Customs

I used Nexus last week at YUL, I noticed they now have more lanes at customs check point. It was much needed because even at peak hours only 2 lanes were available creating long lines. So that is good news.

I had a chat with one of the agent about that change and she mentionned to me that they will be introducing soon a special Nexus lane available during peak hours to give a better and faster service to Nexus card holders.

I don't remember having seen anything like that in other Canadian airports so far.. Is YUL the first airport to get this? Great initiative! ^^

I'm not sure what you mean - YYZ has an express lane for Nexus card holders at security, and also by definition Nexus has a dedicated lane for entry (immigration). If you mean the exit to from the baggage hall, no, that's not dedicated anywhere else I can recall, but those lines are rarely that long (ie no more than 5 minutes) in YYZ; of course YUL you would know better I have never arrived there from an international flight.
