I'm not sure what you mean - YYZ has an express lane for Nexus card holders at security, and also by definition Nexus has a dedicated lane for entry (immigration). If you mean the exit to from the baggage hall, no, that's not dedicated anywhere else I can recall, but those lines are rarely that long (ie no more than 5 minutes) in YYZ; of course YUL you would know better I have never arrived there from an international flight.

Yes, I mean the exit from the baggage hall. My understanding is that it will be open only when needed at peak time.In YUL it can be longer than 5 min for sure. The new conf will certainly help accelerate the process but it's good to know that a fast track will be available.

I guess it will also become a reality in other Canadian airports soon.

YYZ definitely does not have a separate Nexus exit from baggage hall. GE in the US has a separate exit which is great. YYZ has an additional exit towards the high number baggage belts, but in almost all of my flying, I've always seen it closed.

YYZ had some recent construction to add additional exit lanes and CBSA did tell me that they are looking at opening one as NEXUS only.

NEXUS application processing time

Good evening.

I've submitted my NEXUS application a few days ago.

On average, how long does it take for the "pre-qualification" to be completed?

And from that point, in the Montreal area, does someone have an idea of the typical waiting time at the airport, Champlain, of even Ottawa's airport, to get an interview?

Thanks.

Don't forget to check the Lansdowne enrollment center. It's not much farther from Montreal than YOW (2.5hrs vs 2.1hrs, according to Google Maps), and I was able to find an appointment there months before anything at YOW, YUL, YYZ, etc.

You can always make the appointment for Lansdowne and then keep an eye on YUL and other closer centers for last-minute cancellations.

Answer to GE kiosk question when in transit

This post is just FYI if you will be using Global Entry to pre-clear in Canada, but you are simply connecting in the US onward to an international destination.

I did that for the first time a few days ago. When the GE machine asked me the purpose of my visit to the US, I was tempted to select "Leisure" (or whatever the equivalent was), but I was on a business trip, and I decided to err on the side of caution. I selected "Other", hoping that there might be an "In transit" option on the next screen, or worst case scenario I'd explain myself in secondary.

And.... the GE receipt sent me off to secondary. After a quick explanation to the officer of the above, I was on my way. He said I should have selected "Leisure". Lesson learned, and in fact I did that on my way back through on the return trip.

Interestingly, today I received an automated email from DHS, noting that I had experienced difficulties when using a GE kiosk, and asking for feedback. I replied, suggesting that they add an explicit reference to in-transit passengers on the first screen. I must say I'm impressed that they sought the feedback.

That is useful to know. I hope they do add an "in transit" option. I had my granola bars in transit to NRT via LAX so I was getting the Secondary no matter what, but it's an obvious case where passengers want to do the right thing and the interpretation is not at all clear. I would have out Business as I was travelling for Business. Never in a moment would "Leisure" come to mind!

Anyone tried to update GOES with a new electronic passport? Any issues?

Well, that might be nice, but I'm not sure it's really necessary to have a dedicated Nexus exit. I've never really waited all that long anyway. They might do what they do for GE in the US. They just have a priority lane next to a regular lane and call the Nexus folks up first.

I've had to wait 10 mins or more to get out as there were several international flights at the same time and everyone had huge amounts of luggage and all lined up to get out. A nexus exit lane or even a adjacent lane to the regular exit would certainly help at least at peak times.

I agree. I've never had to wait too long, and the cost of just having a NEXUS lane that feeds into the general exit, but gets served first, is negligible.

At certain peak times it would definitely be necessary in my experience.

+1 I've arrived from a short US commuter flight to be mixed in with the EK flight from DXB, the LH flight from FRA, and some other international flight. After literally pushing people out of the way so I could get into the immigration hall to use NEXUS, I had to line up for almost 30 min to leave the baggage hall with no baggage.

Two quick questions:

1) Any chance YTZ will have Nexus compatible US CBP services such as those available in YYZ?

2) Any chance that GOES will have a no fingerprint option for minors similar to the no iris scan option for minors available on Nexus?

When we fly out of YTZ to visit family in NYC, it is such a pain to slog through the long march at EWR with non-trusted travelers simply because one of us is under 18. Is this our destiny for the foreseeable future?

Thanks.
