If I carry my bag using Nexus and she takes the non-nexus lane with her bag (but with my name on the tag) would she have any problem ? Now if you are flying out of Montréal, it may be a problem, as you don't physically walk your bag past the customs guy and put it on the belt, but it is magically transported under you and the customs agent will ask you to identify your bags on the computer screen after he scans your boarding card. It is probably not a problem if you have nothing to declare, and you don't suspect your GF is secretly importing heroin but it is technically not right. If you were leaving through, say, Toronto, you would have the bags tagged to you, but your GF would physically walk her bag through immigration and customs, then drop it on the belt. No problemo. As for arriving in Canada, if you want to run and get the car, just take your bag and leave hers on the carousel. Chances are though that by the time the bags come up, she will have long since gotten through immigration and will be chiding you for your belief that Nexus saves you any time. If you're checking bags it often makes no difference. |

Of course, when leaving Canada, at least YYZ, the time savings is definitely the much bigger benefit. And you get this whether checking bags or not. |
what's the percentage of the applicants for Nexus who gets rejected?
I got my interview scheduled, but last hear I heard from a friend that his application was rejected. |

Since TDC books are no longer being issued and not everyone who travels has access to a computer and printer, the verbal declaration method has to be legal in addition to the TDC method.

Actual Experience At YYZ for Updates and Global Entry Sticker
Here's what happened today:
Go to departures, find post "H" which is where the US preclearance is. You have to cross through the rather huge preclearance lineup into the Nexus office, so don't be shy. First if all you need to do is update for NEXUS (passport info) if you can arrive at 8 a.m. you'll be out at about 8:02 a.m. since it is dead empty and they are happy to wait on you. They have a practise machine there if you've never used a Nexus machine you can. You sign in on the update (vs. appointment) clipboard and then they call you over, in my case before I finished writing. They take your passport, copy it, do something on the computer and you are done. If you need to get a sticker, a couple warnings. First don't get there before 9 a.m. as US CBSA doesn't. At 9 a.m. there are not that many people there so if you have to do both go at around 8:45 or so and you can finish up with Canada while the US folks arrive. Second be very explicit on the signup sheet (yes I signed in twice) that you want US and Global Entry STICKER <------ note I got called up to a very nice chap who asked me my height and eye colour then proceeded to enroll me in GE (again), well, the computer didn't want to cooperate since I was already enrolled so after the picture and fingerprints they just cancelled the whole thing and gave me the sticker. Finally one of the two agents asked if I enrolled in GE and as I did in March, they said, "well that's it then, he's enrolled already, just give him a sticker", note they said it before I asked. So rumours around sticker stinginess are pretty much unfounded. About the stickers. They have a couple rolls of these things , must be 1,000 of them. They were not hoarding them and they are aware of the normal application, in my case to the inside cover of my new passport. So that's it - real world experience, arrive at 8 or 845, sign in twice and wait your turn. By 930 when I left the US preclearance line was gone. It extended into the gate entrance area at 9 a.m. and in half an hour they were all processed. If you have Nexus, the Canada agent advised you show your card to the man at the entrance (facing the entrance head on, not in one of the two mile-long lineups along the walls) and you go straight in to the Nexus machine area. So don't be shy there either. |
Pardon my ignorance. What is the sticker for?

I was told at YEG that since they don't have the special machine yet that in lieu of a sticker you can just tell GE line checkers that this was the case and they should let you through. Of course its likely better to get the sticker somewhere else. YEG's machine is coming in the next couple of months.

Are you saying there are no NEXUS at Canada arrival or no NEXUS at US preclearance there or both (at YEG)? In which case the former you are SOL even having NEXUS and the latter you would show your NEXUS card not GE ID. NEXUS is use in Canada in both arriving and US departing. GE only members get no advantage in Canadian airports, in other words. GE members should apply for NEXUS in other words. Anyhoo there were pages of people wondering about how to update and get a sticker and now you all know. |

I got my new Passport in the mail today. I'm assuming I have to contact NEXUS and give them my new number?
