I mean at the airline checkin kiosks. Right now, you have to scan your passport to get your boarding pass. Can you scan your nexus card instead?

Granted, I fly NWA most of the time, but this is the only nexus thread I've found, and figure that if it works for AC, it may work for all airlines :)

Granted, I've only ever used my NEXUS at the airport, I was told when I got the card that if you were traveling with someone else in the car, that it could read more than one at the same time; you just hold them both up to the reader. Is this not true?

It's detailed in the "Nexus Dedicated Commuter Lane (DCL)" brochure. The 2 statements of interest here:

"Driver: Open your window and each individual should hold up their card pointing at the RFID antenna."
"DO NOT present more than one card at time."

Nexus – O1 Visa question

My travel between YYZ – NYC has increased quite a bit and it looks like I will be applying for an O1 US Visa. The application will take a few months to complete, but I was wondering if I should apply for my NEXUS card now (I’ll still be traveling back and forth for meetings where I won’t need the visa) and just update the information once the visa comes through. Do I disclose that I will apply for an O1 during the NEXUS application process?

Or, is it easier if I wait for the visa to be processed first and then apply with NEXUS?

Complete it ASAP and then update when things change - it's quick and easy.

To my knowledge, this is not yet possible.

How is someone on the passenger side of the car supposed to point his/her card at the RFID antenna?

There is no way for the machine to scan your card. The kiosk can only scan your eyes (iris).

They're not. It's the drivers responsibility.

I was just conditionally approved for Nexus and the first available appointment in YYZ is in 5 weeks. So 5 weeks to get approved, 5 weeks for the appointment - even for government bureaucrats that's quite the lengthy process.

Anyone know if its possible to get an earlier appointment? Are cancellations common?

Keep checking the appointment calendar online -- not sure about YYZ, but at YUL, I was able to move up my appointment twice; I ended up waiting less than 2 weeks between my conditional approval and my appointment interview.

Nope. I tried going in and they said they don't take walkups and they don't fill cancellations.

5 weeks is a short wait for YYZ. My first wait was over 6 weeks, then I missed it due to an oversold flight, then it was 5 weeks for my 2nd one, which was acouple of days ago.

Despite that, there's a PDF brochure online (don't have a link) where the driver is holding up 2 cards in one hand.

When I was based out of ORD, I used to frequently fly to YYZ on UA, and did, every few trips, try to see if the check in kiosk would read my card like it does my passport....but no dice. I thought it should...I mean, the code or whatever it uses looks to be the exact same pretty much.

They should allow this, however, with NEXUS being more useful/important to Canadians (just because Canadians tend to need to travel more to the US than vice-versa), I doubt this is very important. Aside from the US customs/border officials that are stationed at Canadian airports, US officials don't know what NEXUS is. Despite the fact that the card is supposed to be WHTI compliant, UA still would never accept it as proper ID, they still require a passport (I tend not to try to argue with anyone who has the power to deny me boarding). The TSA screeners that check ID also don't recognize the card - I've tried to use it, and they ask me what it is and imply that its not valid. One was going to look it up in the book of acceptable ID's, but I relented and just showed my license - next time maybe I will have them look it up just to see if its in there.

Check the documentation that came when you signed up for Nexus and got your card. You are still required to carry your passport, nexus is not a replacmenet and you may be requested to show your passport at any time, if you don't have it, you an loose your nexus priveledges.
