Nexus shows as no interviews available. Is it because they are fully booked, or are they simply not doing interviews at this point? And if they are doing interviews (I don't mind driving to Canada or wherever, I'm in the US), is there a trick to getting an appointment (e.g. particular day/time that appointment blocks get released etc)?

gxbry they are not doing interviews, nor are they booking them. Those that were schduled for now (from a year ago), are cancelled. Until the borders are actually reopened (plus a little while I'd guess with the threat of strike action in Canada), they will not restart them. If you applied prior to your NEXUS card expiring, they have extended that expiry to 24 months, giving time (hopefully) to reschedule an interview if required when they reopen.
Based on the fact it took me booking 10 months in the future to schedule a time that worked for me before, I'm getting a bit nervous about the backlog! |

I went to my local Global Entry office today to update name, citizenship status and passports. They were able to perform all those updates even though I have NEXUS (not GE) and even though I have a pending renewal application awaiting conditional approval.
They did advise me that I would have to update CBSA separately, and that Canadian systems would be out of date until I do so. I was already aware of that, but they also said that with the US side updated, I should have no problems using the Global Entry and TSA Precheck benefits at US ports. One thing they didn't do was remove my now-void green card. I figured that would be routine when adding a US passport, as the two statuses and therefore the two documents are mutually exclusive. But I guess not. I presume an interview invitation will follow any conditional approval given these changes, so I've made myself a note to ask for the green card to be removed at that time. I hope this is helpful to others who need to make membership/document updates while NEXUS offices are closed. |
I posted in one of the other threads, but to echo txviking's post - my wife was able to successfully update her name and passport at the BOS Global Entry Enrollment Centre a couple weeks back.
After making the change, renewed and received a new card with the updated name, so should be good to go for both the US and Canadian sides at this point. |
Renewal approval 6 mos after application. Canadian. No interview. Delay may have been due to declared travel in Turkey.

I am a new Canadian Permanent resident but a U.S citizen. Do I qualify for nexus still? It's a little confusing because I qualified as a U.S citizen but I don't qualify as a new PR.

You qualify as a U.S. citizen resident in Canada. You declare your citizenship by adding a U.S. passport, and your residence by adding your permanent resident card.

Nexus revoked during AOS?
I just had my Nexus card revoked today with minimal reason that I don't meet eligibility requirement.
The only eligibility requirement that may be objectionable is that to have Nexus, a person must be "admissible" into US. I'm currently adjusting my status from TN to LPR, and thus I'm "inadmissible" into US, I can only be "paroled". That's my speculation anyhow. Has anyone else had this experience? |

Bit of a Nexus dummy here - my first renewal. I just got the renewal notice 6 months prior to my birthday, which looks to be the expiry date.
I am assuming that if I apply now the renewal (when it finally happens) will be dated from the expiry of the old card, so I might as well just do it now? Are there any reasons to do it closer in to the expiry date? There is nothing at all controversial in my case for renewing it. I am understanding from the posts that for Nexus there is an automatic 2 year extension now? The email talks about 1 year but I am assuming that is for GE. Thanks all! |

Posting this here, since not sure where else. I have a pretty niche situation in that when my NEXUS renewal was approved CBP seemed to have linked both my current TN visa, as well as the TN that is for a previous employer but has not hit its expiry date, based off what I saw on the website. I only entered the current one when I filled out the renewal form, but they seemed to pick up the previous one because it was linked to my GE profile. So I was concerned that using Global Entry it would not let me choose which TN to enter under and obviously I didn't want to enter on the wrong one. As I expected, the GE kiosk doesn't let you choose, you just have to hit TN. I was pleasantly surprised when I pulled up my I-94 once I got to the lounge that it defaulted to my current one and not the old employer (I could tell because the I-94 gives your admit until date, which corresponds to the visa).

Nexus gives conditional approval but no interviews
As a GE member with a residence in upstate New York, I naively thought that once the Canadian border opened (in August) I would be able to join Nexus. Paid the money (for wife and myself) and recently received conditional approval. The approval message says that you must schedule an interview and that if an interview is not scheduled within the next year, your application will automatically be cancelled. It does not say that centers will not accept interviews, that CBP invalidated centers in New York State and other places due to disputes, and that Canada is not processing Nexus applications. It does say that interviews can now be conducted online but it does not disclose that you can't get an appointment.
After trying for a while, I read the available news as well as this thread. As others have observed, it appears that Nexus is still not allowing new applicants. The majority of Nexus holders (77%) are Canadian and there is little motivation to accept new holders when the U.S. in general does not allow Canadians to cross the land border. Plus, as I noted in a previous post, the Nexus line at the land border is not open. But it would have been really helpful if the CBP would just provide accurate information. Why tell you to schedule an interview if you can't? That seems to be a waste of time. It's a big ask, but if CBP would provide an alert when interviews are actually available, rather than simply when one is conditionally "approved", it would be a lot more practical and convenient. Meanwhile, if you are thinking of joining Nexus, this is probably not the time, and if you do, please do not waste a lot of effort searching the calendar for available interview dates! |
