Signed up just to post about this Nexus <redacted by moderator>.

Ive been a member of Nexus program (NY State resident) for over 10 years.

I submitted renewal July 12, 2019 (expired August 19, 2019)

As of yesterday still absolutely no movement on it. And of course now its been cancelled. Im guessing I dont even have the 1 year grace period to use it. Bunch of <redacted by moderator>.

That's a rookie wait time. Some of us waited 7 months before finally getting approved last Friday. Today, this Friday, my new membership card arrived though. Not bad processing time for a Government program.

Everything I read said renewals would still be processed, just no new applications from NYS would be.

That's incorrect. Please refer to the thread that I linked in my moderator's note above.

No, not worth a 2 hour drive. I can wait.

Have you checked daily for cancellations? Best time is when that enrollment center is open. If you check diligently daily, you are very likely to find something suitable in 72 hours.

Good luck.

After renewing passport, I submitted my NEXUS renewal on 2020-02-19. My existing renewal expires in August. I'll post progress. At least I get the year extension - things must be pretty bad on the admin side.

joanek Feb 20, 2020 6:37 pm

Sent in my Nexus renewal December 10 - expiry date is mid-May 2020 - and haven't heard anything yet. I would have sent it earlier, but didn't get a notification until November. I had to renew my passport also, so I waited until I had the new number.
I added Nexus to my GE in 2013 and renewed as Nexus in 2015 with an interview. I had joined GE in the second wave of the pilot and was in INSPASS prior.

Anyone used the expired Nexus travel card at airports or driving? Been waiting for a renewal since August 2019, my card expires in April so getting a bit worried.

I got a conditional approval. The earliest time where it's convenient for me to get an interview is after the card will expire (but still well within the 6/12 month grace period). If I schedule my interview for that period of time (after expiration, before end of grace period) will Global Entry and PreCheck still work? I'm not clear on if the grace period applies only for pending, or if it's also ok for conditional.

There are some accounts above; awareness of the extension seems rather hit-or-miss. I wouldn't worry about ending up in jail, but if I was driving across I'd worry about pissing somebody off, delays, and maybe losing your card. Checking in with an airline with just a facially-expired Nexus card seems likely to be a horrible experience, but I suspect that checking in with a passport and actually using the Nexus kiosks on the Canada side with a facially-expired card would work fine. My strategy for land crossings (which I haven't had to try yet) was to present the card and have a non-NEXUS backup ID ready for immediate use as well.

As for timing, there's a mounting pile of evidence that renewals are either nearly-instant (on the order of a few days) or in a queue that seems to be taking a little over seven months to get through. Here's another data point for that: my mid-July application was approved today, no interview required. I would *guess* that you'll be OK with (depending on exactly when in August and April) a week or three to spare.

I'm still waiting for my Nexus renewal to be conditionally approved, but many of my documents are expiring. Has anyone have an experience updating documents while the renewal is still pending?
