Canadian-American here with Global Entry. I applied for Nexus last September 2021 and I am stil waiting…
It’s interesting when CBSA tells you that applications are taking over 8 months because of Covid, (and they blame CBP for the delay) yet you know people who receive conditional approval in a few days or weeks. 😐 |
Finally got Conditional Approved

Just got conditional approval

I applied in the first week of April and got approved within 10 days. I think I am one of the lucky ones. I had an interview on 29th April at Whirlpool Bridge and got approved at the same time.
Anyone has any idea how many days to get the card in my mailbox. I am eager to see how it looks and utilize the previlage. |
Still waiting for the conditional approval since September 2021
How much longer will it take to get the conditional approval? I am a Canadian citizen, and I see all Canadian PRs getting their approvals within days...

But to answer your original question, it depends. It depends on your own background and whether there's anything in it they need to look into further. It also depends on CBSA *and* CBP systems, and where you end up in the queues for both. Your randomly assigned caseworker might be neglecting your file. And since they won't disclose any of this information, there's no way for an outsider to tell. If it makes you feel any better, I applied for NEXUS renewal as a US LPR and it took so many months that I became a US citizen in the interim. LPR applicants do not get preferential treatment to citizens, either in the US or Canada. |
Applied for Baby's nexus May 3rd, 2021
Anyone else apply over a year ago and still waiting for conditional approval? We applied for my son on May 3rd when he was 4.5 months old and haven't heard a thing. Credit card was charged and check on-line periodically, but nothing has changed. Trying to get an idea when we may hear something. (Baby is duel citizen of USA & Canada)

At this point you are eligible for a ombudsman push. I would first try to call a Nexus center and say it's been over 365 days, is there any way I can have my application looked at? You'll probably get a no, maybe a promise to look into it. Wait a week and if no movement, draft a short letter to the ombudsman saying the same. US CBP says it can take up to a year for initial approval, which of course is insane. I haven't requested the ombudsman for an initial Nexus application, only for overturning a denial, and that took 9 months from submission to any change (which was positive).

Part of a reply I received from nexus
This is a general email, and we recognize that it may not address your specific situation. Please review the information below and reply directly to this email if this general information does not resolve your inquiry.
We are currently experiencing a backlog in processing. Processing times vary by applicant, but on average you can expect your application to be processed as follows: • GE: 4 months • NEXUS: 12-14 months • SENTRI: 10 months These are average times. Unfortunately, we cannot anticipate a date of completion for your specific application at this time. |
My girlfriend has had conditional approval for close to a year now but unable to schedule since we moved to the US and don't live within driveable distance of the border. Hopefully the Canadian airport locations open up soon so we can just fly through there and get it done before the conditional approval expires...

At least you got a n (automated) response. I guess you are SOL for another two months. Frankly, I don't understand why Nexus takes so long, considering the Canadian side has a published goal of 30 days which they hit 95% of the time. I'm confused as to why there is still a backlog in the first place too since basically no one was traveling for six months to a year, you would think the agents could have been repositioned to look at the applications, since none of them were furloughed and the main work of many agents dried up. Just like USCIS cleared its passport backlog I would hope CBP could clear this one. They can move fast when they want, such as assisting in processing of Ukrainian refugees. Obviously that is much higher priority so I don't blame them, but with all the tech available to them, this should be relatively easy to automate 90% of the checks.

Also not sure what program you applied for, Nexus is free for under 18 so not sure what credit card charge you incurred. |

That's late. My kid born Oct 2021 just had interview recently and card should be coming in 2 weeks. Conditional approval was about 10 days after application. CA citizen.
