Thanks for the feedback,
This is my second time trying the new air lounge and I have to confess I was very skeptical at first, but I genuinely liked it. Never felt uncomfortable (but the memory foam pillow for the lower back is a must, without it i'm quite sure it will be uncomfortable while sitting up/lounging) on relatively short flights (both of them were between ORD and HEL). Outstanding Plat recognition and overall attitude from the crew on both flights. I was able to sleep well, I'm 1.84 meters tall (6 feet) but always a side sleeper so can't say for sure for back sleepers. |

legendary cellar master of the Abbey of Hautvillers, Dom Perignon is always made from only the best grapes of nine grands and premiurs crus villages. Each vintage retains the house signature whilst expressing the unique events of the growing season. 2012 combines intensity, tautness and energy. White flowers, nectarine and apricot burst on the nose with hints of rhubarb and freshly picked mint. The explosive palate offers a surge of effervescence and succinctness, marked by ginger, tobacco and lemon brioche. White Wine Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru Louis Latour 2010, Burgundy, France The Latour family owns 11 hectares on a prime section of the hill of Corton, which makes them the appellation's largest landowner. The south-easterly aspect ensures maximum exposure to the sun, whilst the fruit is harvested as late as possible for maximum ripeness. The 2010 bursts with almond-toned freshly picked stone fruit aromas. The palate is dry and medium bodied with flavours of white peach, lemon peel and vanilla which interplay around a stony core. Clos des Lunes Lune d'Or 2016, Bordeaux, France Clos des Lunes is a newly created dry white from some of the best terroir in Bordeaux, combining deep gravel and underground spring. A blend of Semillon and Sauvignon blanc, these grapes are handpicked at perfect maturity to produce some of the best known dry whites. The 2016 has an intense nose of white peach, citrus and grilled almonds. The palate is rich, silky and unctuous with excellent tension and minerality on the finish. Chateau La Louviere Blanc 2017, Pessac-Leognan, France Although not a classified growth, Chateau La Louviere is one of the emblematic estates of the Graves. Its winemaking tradition dates back to the 14th century and its owner Andre Lurton has played a significant role in the creation of the appellation of Pessac-Leognan. The 2017 shows aromas of citrus, pear and tropical fruit enhanced by toasty oak. The palate is medium-bodied and tremendously fresh. The tangy, persistent finish shows hints of pineapple and citrus. Chablis Grand Cru Les Blanchots Domaine Laroche 2016, Burgundy, France The Laroche family has been making wine in Chablis since 1850 and remains at the forefront of the industry. Les Blanchots is made up of a layer of white clay on Kimmeridgian limestone. The southeast exposure allows slow ripening and aroma development. The 2016 has a refreshing nose with grapefruit and lemon peel aromas, complemented by honeyed overtones. Dry and racy in style with green apple and white stone fruit flavours, it has a long, lingering mineral finish. Red Wine Chateau Lascombes 2009, Bordeaux, France Chateau Lascombes is one of the 15 Second Crus in the original 1855 Bordeaux classification. Established in the 17th century, 10 generations of owners have succeeded each other, left their stamp and contributed to the excellence of the wines. The 2009 has a beautiful blueberry-scented nose with hints of acacia flowers, liquorice, graphite and subtle charcoal nuances. The palate is full-bodied with high glycerine, has a silky texture, soft tannins and an endless finish. Tignanello IGT 2014, Toscana, Italy Owned by the Antinori family, the Tignanello IGT dates back to the 1970s and is one of the original "Super Tuscan" wines. Produced in the Chianti region but not labelled as such, it was the first Sangiovese-based wine to be aged in small oak barrels and blended with non-traditional varieties as cabernet sauvignon. This 2014 shows powerful aromas of red fruit, raspberries and liquorice. The palate is full-bodied with great tension and vivid flavours of red cherries, plums, cloves, mint and sage. Petit-Figeac 2011, Bordeaux, France Owned by the Manoncourt family for over 120 years, Chateau Figeac has a remarkable location in the northwest of the Saint-Emilion region, neighbouring Cheval Blanc. Petit-Figeac is the second wine from the estate, made from vines not destined for the "Grand Vin". The 2011 has a complex nose with fresh blackcurrant, tobacco and a hint of toast. The palate is medium-bodied with scented pencil shavings, firm tannins, smoky blackberry flavours and a long finish. Don Melchor Concha y Toro 2014, Maipo Valley, Chile First created in 1988 with a vision to create an icon wine of Chile, Don Melchor has risen to become one of the top Cabernet blends of South America. At 650 metres of altitude, the vineyard benefits from the cool breeze which conserves acidity, fruity characters and aromas. The 2014 shows an expressive nose of ripe blackberry and black cherry with notes of mint. Full-bodied and juicy, with well-rounded tannins, the finish is full of dark fruit flavours upheld by smoky nuances. Dessert Chateau d'Yquem 2005, Sauternes, France Chateau d'Yquem has for many years topped the list of the world's most revered dessert wines and rightly so. There are very few wines that reach this kind of intensity and complexity whilst delivering unequivocal pleasure to the drinker. The 2005, one of their finest, offers notes of pure honey, vanilla and stone fruits on the nose. The palate is rich and unctuous with intense pineapple and candied citrus peel, and has an incredibly long finish. Port Sandeman 40-year-old Tawny Port, Douro Valley, Portugal In 1790, when George Sandeman set up in the Port and Sherry trade, the enterprising 25-year-old ended up establishing one of the world's greatest wine businesses. The Sandeman 40-year-old is blended from a strict selection of wines aged for 40 years and above. Incorporating rich yet elegant aromas of dried apricots, honey, nuts, spices and vanilla, this wine is lusciously sweet with an endless complexity that unfolds smoothly, developing in the mouth along its course. 10033849-|FC-UK_14 AUG 22 |

Perignon 2012 Named after the legendary cellar master of the Abbey of Hautvillers, Dom Perignon is always made from only the best grapes of nine grands and premiurs crus villages. White Wine Chateau Carbonnieux Blanc 2014, Pessac-Leognan, France Boasting a history dating back to the 12th century, this is one of the oldest chateaux in Bordeaux. The estate has 90 hectares of vines almost evenly split between red and white grapes. This makes Carbonnieux the biggest white wine producer of all the Bordeaux growths. The 2014 sauvignon blanc shows lemon and almond aromas with a touch of blackcurrant leaf. The palate is dry and medium-bodied with intense gooseberry flavours and a complex mineral finish. Howard Park Allingham Chardonnay, Margaret River, Australia This highly acclaimed wine is made from the best blocks of Chardonnay that grow on Allingham vineyard in Margaret River. The winemaking team draws inspiration from traditional methods, maturing in various sizes of oak barrels to craft a complex wine from this cool southern site. The nose has ripe aromas of peach, baked apple and hazelnut. Dry and medium-bodied, its citrus, stone fruit and toast flavours lead to a fresh finish. Chablis Grand Cru Bougros Domaine William Fevre, Burgundy, France The Fevre family is one of the oldest in Chablis whose lineage dates back to 1750. William started the company in 1958 when the whole of the Chablis vineyard was just 550 hectares. Now owned by champagne house Henriot, quality at this respected estate has continued to climb. This wine offers saline notes with green apple, grapefruit and hazelnut. The palate is full-bodied with the hallmark chalky notes commonly found in Chablis, fresh acidity and a long finish. Clarendon Hills Astralis Syrah 2010, McLaren Vale, Australia Roman Bratasiuk, a biochemist obsessed with the great wines of the world, founded this small, family-run winery in 1990. Astralis the top wine of the estate, is made from Syrah vines planted in the 1920s in the famous McLaren Vale region. It is one of Australia's vinous legends. The 2010 offers a concentrated nose of roasted plums, blueberry jam and black pepper. It is full-bodied, dense and structured with intense ripe black fruit flavours and a pure, persistent finish. Chateau Trimoulet 2012, Saint-Emilion, France This little known Saint-Emilion Grand Cru began to achieve recognition after enlisting the help of acclaimed wine consultant Nicolas Thienpont in 2011. THe property now forms part of the Dassault Wine Estates group, which has multiple interests in the appellation. The 2012 has a nose of ripe black cherry with some black raspberry and cedar notes. It is medium-bodied with supple but full tannins and has an exotic, spicy fruitcake finish. Tournon Shays Flat 2013, Victoria's Pyrenees, Australia In 2017, Michel Chapoutier, owner and winemaker of M. Chapoutier, one of the Rhone Valley's most esteemed estates, founded Domaine Tournon in the cool-climate Pyrenees ranges of central Victoria, Australia. This 50-hectare estate is tended using a holistic and organic method of farming called biodynamics. The 2013 shows aromas of cherry, blackberry, rosemary and cracked pepper. Full-bodied, soft and earthy, it has generous black fruit flavours with hints of exotic spice. 10045369-FC-AUSTRALASIA-WAPR 2_11 AUG 22 |

Back in 2015, I had an epic trip to Singapore and Malaysia. Using United miles to book reward travel, booked business from LHR-BKK-KUL with return KUL-BKK-LHR in first for the BKK-LHR leg. While in Singapore and Malaysia, saw the F1 Grand Prix in Singapore, went to the Perhentian Islands in Malaysia, and spent time visiting friends living in KL at the time. Took tons of photos, planned an epic trip report. Then on the day of my departure, my phone, on which I had taken all my photos died. As such, the TR was abandoned.
Luckily I had a spare digital camera with me, and while cleaning out my closets recently turned it on and noticed I had taken some photos from the Thai Airways return in first. Sadly as I didn't want to put on the flash, they are all dark and blurry. But there were two good photos of the menu of the food offerings on the flight. SQ 24 is the world’s longest scheduled commercial flight and the flying time is eighteen hours, and yet the menu is just insufficient in terms of quantity and quality. Three FULL meals should be served, instead of two. They served lunch after takeoff, and they did not serve dinner till 9pm Singapore local time. From my previous experience with SQ’s ultra-long-haul flight, I ordered a sandwich around 6pm local time. Honestly the sandwich was nice, but small. Dinner was just bad overall. The appetizer was ridiculous and basically leftover chicken and diced fruit threw together and put on top of some lettuce. The dressing was missing and I was not sure if the crews forgot and they never loaded it. I ordered BTC for main meal and the beef was only so-so. Then the desserts were served and I chose both the cheese plate and the passionfruit pound cake, which was awful. The mousse was artificial tasting and honestly any US supermarkets can serve better cakes than SQ. With more than eight hours left, it concluded all the main meal services. I ordered the soy sauce chicken noodles prior to arrival and it was basically instant noodles tossed in soy sauce with some chicken. At least I got some real protein, but that’s it. The snack menu was just poor with lack of “real fresh food” offered. A hot light meal should be offered prior to arrival. As an aviation enthusiast, I flew this flight but I have ZERO interest to fly these long-haul flights again on Singapore Airlines. I wrote a pretty strongly worded email to Singapore Airlines and got a polite reply. However I voted with my wallet. I will not fly any SQ long haul flights beyond twelve hours. If you have to fly SQ ultra-long-haul flights even in business class, please remember to pack some snacks and remember that you can order as much instant noodles as you want. Don’t be shy because you might be hungry even after that annoying midflight dinner service. |
