I've also come to the conclusion that the IPC-PPT or vv flight just cannot be booked on points.

Papua New Guinea is not a useful hub to visit other countries.

There is a French mail ship you could take, throughout these islands. The Aranui III might be a good solution, better than flying!

My folks did that cruise, really liked it. Stopping off at all the islands while delivering cargo etc.

Quite different than a normal cruise, i.e. less passengers, and meals were normally one option only etc.

It looks like the ship only goes around French Polynesia

Here is another island cruise that may be interesting to some:

That cruise only covers Tahiti and French Polynesia. None of the other countries or territories I listed are visited.

But, with Niue at least, there aren't many options.
Air NZ actually has two flights to Niue but only through December it looks like.. Inter-island air out of Samoa is also planning on introducing flights to Niue. So that may add another option.

Nice! Which cruise line?

I'm not very familiar with cruises but it definitely seems like the best way to see the South Pacific. A lot seem to be very $$$ luxury oriented trips though - I'd love to find a budget cruise that makes a lot of stops....

It was a one-off cruise, Paul Gauguin was going to Singapore dry-dock. Not cheap at all either. But mrs & miss hauteboy went on that trip (btw I need to finish my report. )

Wish I had all the free time y'all have
Question: do you consider a place like French Guyana or Mayotte simply as France for the count? I think that a count of territories is much more valuable.
Also, what is the minimum criteria for saying: "I have been to country X"?

Thanks!

It depends, but yes, if the teritorry is very removed from the country and is distinct from it, and/or has their own government/autonomy, I would count it.
ie. Guam = yes, Hawaii = no
ie. Christmas, Norfolk = yes, Tasmania = no

As for minimum, opinions will differ, some people will say overnight, but how can that be done for example in Vatican, and would discount for example a day trip or a cruise visit. For some people its simply an airport visit.

Its your game, count it as you like.

I agree with you. In my mind, I have a case Hawai'i. Think about it, the people, the history is different and it is located in another continent.

Hawaii is a part of the USA for me, sorry. There are plenty of countries around the world with diverse cultures, people and history within their borders.

Puerto Rico, Guam, Marianas, Midway are NOT part of the USA

I respect your judgement. I do not agree with it Hawaii is in Oceania, not North America.
