SQ: serves Blue Mountain coffee (but only in F, not in J). And only if you specifically ask, they will not volunteer it usually. Blue Mountain is bliss, worth the effort. Otherwise lots of airlines have Starbucks quality coffee (but not within the US borders, for some reason, must be a deal with the airports). You too can be a snob (without eating caviar or drinking fine wine, just stick to that Blue Mountain).

Thanks for the tip. Blue mountain is great coffee -- at least on the ground. I am a snob with many things indeed . For example coffee. I usually buy my beans from a small local roaster, who does a better job than Starbucks. Starbucks seems to burn their beans and to get rid of all the delicate flavors.

UA claims to be serving Starbucks coffee, although their coffee isn't very good in any class. Once I was really amazed by the taste of coffee on one SK flight. So I had to ask a FA what they are brewing... She said Nescafe of some sort!! I could not believe it. I guess the lower pressure makes brewing good coffee the traditional way quite impossible.

The menu posted for Air Tahiti Nui over at SkyTrax shows a caviar service in First Class.

Can you tell the difference between the Platinum and the regular? I have both, and have real problems telling one from the other in terms of taste.

LH serves caviar on all first class flights w/ lunch or dinner service, even on a small A340 hop between FRA and CAI (less than four hours flight time). I have not been an LH F flight yet in which they did not offer caviar.
BTW I dont eat it

They served it on the BA Concorde in September, a small tin with a mother of pearl spoon. The rest of the food was decent, but the caviar made my day. I was sitting by the window, and the CEO of Dr. Reddy's was sitting on the aisle seat across the aisle. He didn't touch his caviar. If I had been sitting by the aisle, I would have asked him for it (I have no manners and no shame when it comes to caviar), but I wasn't, and I didn't have enough guts to ask over the guy sitting next to me...

I believe Aeroflot also serve it in C, even on intra-Europe routes.

I have tasted both on my last trip to Moscow, at that very cute Loft Cafe on top of Neptun Shopping Centre overlooking the FSB (former KGB) HQs. I truly believe that Platinum is smoother than the regular Russian Standard, and does not have to be sitting in the freezer for 10 minutes before consumption to be bearable.
Actually, Russian Standard Platinum has won me over Crystall Premium Vodka, which has been my favourite for years.

DR Zhivago,

On my recent LHR-SVO-LHR they were serving Salmon Caviar...not Malosol Caviar in C class on Aeroflot.
However, SU is about to introduce their new service standards starting tomorrow (the 25th of December) on SVO-JFK-SVO routes, with totally new meal service, different level of inflight service, enhanced inflight entertainment, new amenity kits, etc. for ALL classes of service. There will be Malosol Caviar in F, C classes on all routes, and this new standard of service will be gradually introduced on all routes throughout 2003 (with SVO-NRT-SVO and SVO-CDG-SVO following SVO-JFK-SVO immediately).

They are also changing the paint scheme of their aircraft from white and blue to navy blue, orange and silver, and the uniforms will become designer-cut in February). Oh, yeah, the hammer and cicle logo will dissapear by the mid-2003 also.

BA does not (hasn't for almost a year). SQ has poor quality caviar, LH is fairly good (and they give you seconds), while CX has excellent caviar (triple the quality of SQ) and serves a very generous amount. These are the only airlines that still have a caviar service in F, the others have stopped because of the cost. Only CX is really noteworthy now, the others serve caviar that is below what I would buy for home use. That said, the smoked salmon on BA is quite good (better than the caviar on SQ, for example). It is possible to have good food without caviar.

Ditto -

ALso, the comment that someone made about SQ not serving caviar on most flights is wrong - all full dinner service flights get caviar. However, I pass on it now as a result of the quality issue.

CX wins this hands down both in quality of the eggs and quality of the service. Of coarse the Melba toast in the SQ cavier service most likely helps since the crunch of the toast masks the poor texture of the caviar

Emirates serves Sevruga caviar in F on their flights.
Sorry, I'm a philistine of tastefulness. Nevertheless my voting (including size of the caviar):
CX > SQ > EK

Quick update on JAL caviar. Perfectly serviceable osetra. But they have the distinct advantage of serving wonderful premium sake which to my taste perfectly balances with caviar- giving both a bottom to those little eggs while gently clearing the palate for the next infusion.

I enjoyed the excellent Cavier with Krug in FC on CX LAX-HKG-BKK /RT! Both went down easily and made me feel like one of the contested millionaires from Worldcon or Enron! Of course, all this was followed by Lobster and Scallops in a tasty sauce.
Even had the Cavier as leftovers to start the nite snack at the International Dateline at Midnight 1/1/03 after a nice nap bundled up in the Duvets! Spoiled for life now. A couple of The Pacific Sunrise were nice touches, also!

There was caviar served as an appetizer on my NW flight MSP-SEA in F tonight! I don't know what kind of fish they squeezed, but I asked the FA and she confirmed that it was indeed caviar.
