Roll if I am pressed for space. Flat if plenty of room.

I put each item (items that tend to wrinkle) in a plastic dry cleaner bag and that them flat one on top of the other (before I put them in the suitcase) and then fold the whole bundle up and pack them. It works like a charm and nothing seems to wrinkle very much at all.

I roll everythign except socks and drawers, which I stuff into every knook and cranny after everythign else is packed. I fold formal shirts and jackets, though! I don't know why I haven't used one of those foldable shirt folders.....

I'm fascinated by how many roll, as it is a technique I've rarely tried.

I use packing cubes for everything but slacks/skirts, which go in travel packs.

I've gotta say, I'm a self-proclaimed expert at packing. I can get a week's worth of business attire plus ancillary items (electronic chargers, some workout gear, etc.) into a 22" rollaboard. And no wrinkles. I follow the roll-up your stuff method religiously and it works great - I've never had to touch a hotel iron or send stuff out to be pressed. Today's wrinkle-free or no-iron fabrics are terrific for the road warrior.

Thus, my vote is - roll up yer stuff!

I roll everything & encase them in drycleaning bags to avoid wrinkles. Cheers.

I do a combination. I roll things like t-shirts, jeans, sweaters and work out clothes. Those items all line the bottom of the suitcase and get stacked until I have a nice even layer. I put longerie in ziplock baggies and squeeze the air out. Then for slacks, dresses and jackets, I keep those in dry cleaner bags and fold over each other to avoid deep creases.

Suits are in their garment bags ready to go and I always carry a blazer with me for the convenience of having extra pockets at the airport.

Average time spent packing is between 20-30 seconds. This has replaced my previous "always keep a bag packed" routine as it allows me to rotate clothes between the "home" and "away" wardrobes as needed.
I have to admit. This is so organized as to be slightly scary!

On the way out its a combination of rolling and lie flat. The small things (socks, etc.) get stuffed into my running shoes.

On the way home dirty clothes seem to take up more room so it is all rolled or stuffed.

I have used the Eagle Creek packing folder for a number of years, and I am very happy with it. It is easy to lift the whole package out of the suitcase, and remove items as needed. If folded properly, I don't find the garments crease very much.

Same here but in the opposite order....items go in bags first and then get rolled. Leaves a layer of bag protection and friction reduction that makes it easier for the fabric to slide somewhat without sliding against itself and causing wrinkles.

For a long time, though, I was a folder....until I found out how hard it is to get folded clothes into the saddlebags on my motorcycle. Rolling works really well in that application and leaves virtually no wrinkles.

Mostly roll here. Pretty much the same way I had to when I was in the Army... Including socks and underwear.
