Do you roll or lie your packing flat??

Just wondering if you lie your packing flat or if you roll it?? I have heard good things about both methods.

Well, for my big trip coming up, I've rolled everything but the socks and underwear. Seems to be working well. :) Folding would have taken more room in my case. If the item doesn't wrinkle, however, it really seems to be a matter of preference.

I use another method which is to push air out and fold it to a small size at the same time, the finally I would sit on the folded flat pack to squeeze out remaining air.

I usually roll my clothes, mostly because of how easy it is to dig through everything without messing it up during the trip.

For bulky winter clothes I use vacuum bags. I roll the rest.

Lay 'em flat.

Lie flat. I also keep all of my clothing in the dry cleaning bags when I travel, as the plastic reduces friction and hence wrinkles.

I usually roll on the way to and flat (or smooshed) on the way home.

Ive been back and forth on it.

Currently I am folding everything and putting it in an Eagle Creek packing folder. Another interesting approach, which I have tried is on this web site. It is a bit more work than using the packing folder but may have some advantages. My experimentation continues. ;)

I usually roll my clothes, because I could grab them better out of my carry on and have a better overview

Folded in half and then flat. Loose but bulky items go in space bags.

Roll (clothes), fold (backdrops and large materials), then squish (when nothing fits)!

Its amazing what you can squeeze into a rucksack when you try ;)

Never thought about rolling, actually. I always pack flat.

I have my travel clothes in my closet classified in sets by purpose. For example, each "1-day work" set consists of shirt, tie, slacks, underwear, socks and handkerchief. Similar for "1-day casual" sets. I just pick up the appropriate number of sets and add them to the bag (which already has one spare set of clothes on permanent standby duty in an inside pouch). Suits are in their garment bags ready to go and I always carry a blazer with me for the convenience of having extra pockets at the airport.

Average time spent packing is between 20-30 seconds. This has replaced my previous "always keep a bag packed" routine as it allows me to rotate clothes between the "home" and "away" wardrobes as needed.
