Making Idiosyncratic Requests At Hotels
Okay, this post will reveal me to be an absolute freakshow, but here goes nothing.
I don't drink coffee. In fact, I hate everything about coffee. I hate the smell, I hate the way it looks, I hate the noise people make when they drink it. I am sure I woud hate the tast if I could get past the other things and actually try it.
I even hate looking at coffee makers . . .
For the past month, I have been staying at the Sheraton Bradley Airport hotel in Hartford, CT while I wait for my house to be ready. This hotel, like many hotels, has in-room coffee makers. This hotel, however, has it in the bathroom right next to the sink (literally inches from it). I find its proximity to the sink disgusting and it makes me very uncomfortable in the bathroom. I cannot even stand in front of the sink to brush my teeth.
Because my reaction to this is so bizzare, I have refrained from asking the hotel to remove the offending apparatus from the room. Should I have asked that it be removed, or is my freakish phobia so abnormal that I am best keeping it to myself?

lol!
I too can't stand the taste, smell, or look of coffee. I have had coffee twice in my life... once as part of some school science experiment, and the other at a cafe when I wanted to fit in while talking to some girl. The flavor is ghastly in my opinion, and I will never try it again. I guess it is pretty much an aquired taste like beer or vegemite. I feel no need anymore to fit in with the crowd or to burn my tastebuds with hot drinks all the time, so I'm happy.
I am not horrified by the sight of coffee machines though, but hey, everyone has something strange they don't like. The hotel people would probably help you out, but you may have them looking at you sideways for the rest of your stay! Could you just move it yourself, or would touching it be a traumatic experience?
Good luck mate! ^

Could you perhaps stick it high on the closet shelf while you're there? Or can you not bring yourself to touch the machine either?
BTW ... I join you in disliking most everything about coffee. Yuck!

I used to loathe coffee - didn't mind too much the smell of a fresh grind but anything else... yuck...
...then I started drinking Starbucks mocha frappuccino... and within a year I'd bought an espresso machine. It is an acquired taste though.
Why not say to the hotel that since you don't intend to use the coffee machine, you'd appreciate the extra space by the sink for toiletries, so could they move the machine out of your room. I would if it bothered me so much

As to the OP, I'd just move the offending device out of sight. If I'm in a room for more than one night, I'll rearrange certain things to fit my patterns and preferences. Nothing different in this case as far as I can see.

You're not alone.
When the coffee maker is in the bathroom, especially anywhere near the sink, it makes me a tad uncomfortable. I don't dislike coffee and I'm too much of a slob to be a germophobe, but something about those coffee makers, seems so dirty. So I normally just stuff it in a drawer.
Sometimes I write a little note or else housekeeping seems to go looking for it - and it finds it's way back, normally right next to the glass with my toothbrush in it.

Actually, they did okay on 2-3-4. #1 baffled them, though.

I am not alone I see. I too hate the smell of it, but I don't go as far as you do.
