And overseas, outlets for various voltages. The HKG Conrad had all of the various worldly voltages built in -- no need for adapters.

A shower with very good water pressure. It amazes me that at some of the better hotels how bad the water pressure is. For $150.+ per night I expect excellent water pressure!
I think I'll start bringing a little wrench with me so can take that water restrictor out of the showerhead!

Call me crazy, but I`m doing those "modifications" frequently. Last time at the Radisson Oslo a week ago. Often you dont even need any tools.

My amenitiy wish (besides niagara-like water pressure) is: Information about the hotel phone/internet access rates which is still not available at a lot ofeuropean hotels.

I enjoy great water pressure in the shower, mouthwash, a large bathroom basin, more electrical outlets, lamps that work, remote controls that work, and I like the hotel to offer something extra upon check-in, like a free cocktail or free breakfast, for elite members. Oh, and Free High speed internet for my laptop.

Staying at the Courtyard in Grand Rapids -- not exactly expecting anything earth shattering in the way of special amenities...when I find a speaker in the bathroom that funnels in the TV!!!! Great God! I suppose there are some folks that have seen this elsewhere -- but, I am in hog heaven. May just sit in the john for a little while and listen to the TV for a bit!

Iteresting thead. I must be doing pretty good. Many of the desired amenities are thigns I get at the hotel I stay at in Los Angeles.

Ironing board and iron (really, can't recall the last time I stayed in a hotel that didn't have thise)
real bars of soap.
high soap dish in tub/shower.
shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, body lotion
Qtips, cotton bads, shower cap, breath mints
soap dish at the sink
plenty of towels
robe
a small, second TV near the desk, with a VCR (people still watch stuff on tape)
power plug at desk level
CD Clock radio. Instructions *are* included in the room guide
turn down service, with bottle of water (I love turn down service, and miss it at hotels that don't do it)
24 hour room service.

Their property in D.C also had the TV sound in the bathroom, votive candles in the bathroom, slippers, and shoe horn.

What I'd really like is a list of businesses that are frequently needed by guests, and a simple map on how to get to them. Many hotels sell pages into their info books, but this information isn't complete enough. I often find myself looking in the yellow pages, but never have an idea which location is close to my hotel. Ideally, this list would include:

Restaurants (delivery, take out, and sit-down)
Kinko's and/or similar shops
Office supply store
Discount retailers (Target, Walmart)
Starbucks
24 hour stores
Drug store
Gyms
Shopping mall
Tourist attractions
</font>
Cyber Cafes (for the many hotels that still don't have high speed access)
Federal Express
Mail Boxes Etc
24-Hour Drugstores
Fast Food
Liquor Stores
ATMs
Post Offices
Radio Shack
Supermarkets
Mass Transit Stations

Everything within 1/2 mile of the hotel. On a big, laminated card with a map, please.

Don't diss shower caps. They are useful for plugging up the air vent in the bathroom so you can fill the room up with steam and steam your suit for tomorrow.

I like where UK hotels have US / European plugs...

However, my favourite amenity: a bed that's just as wide as it is long. (Thank you Sheraton Skyline at LHR)

Get out of the chain hotels if you want amenities, great service, individual treatment.

There seems to be an obsession with Hiltons, Marriots etc. They are like the McDonalds of the hotel business. Trashy and impersonal.

Try a few boutique hotels, or country hotels. Rent a house for a few days instead of a hotel. Maybe stay in the quiet suburbs and commute into the city like the local residents do.

A TV in the bathroom - we have one at home & I love catching up on the news while getting ready. Face it, other than sleeping, you spend most of your time in a hotel in the bathroom - showering, etc - might as well be entertained & informed while you're at it!

Cordless phones - I'm tired of being stuck on the phone when I need to get info from my bag, which is across the room. Feel so last century being tied to a phone.
