Tip the maid. Like your dinner "server." Just do it. Say 15 percent of the room charge, for instance.</font>

Well, the poll question went up today and only 15 people have voted, and it's a close one!
40% Regularly tip
7% Tip only if a large mess
47% Never tip
7% are unsure
-------------------
The no-tippers have the lead 54->40!

Slighty OT (and yes, we do leave a tip for the housekeepers), but on a trip last week to the new Embassy Suites Hotel in Niagara Falls, Ontario, there were large glass "tip-bowls" (about the size of a large brandy snifter) at each check-in desk. We've never noticed this before at any hotel we've stayed at, is this a new trend? Didn't know you're now expected to tip for checking into or out of a hotel.
By the way, the new ES is beautiful, with good staff and accomodations. But watch out for the $20 per day parking fee.

There already is one thread pertaining to this topic, although I believe there are even more threads pertaining to this topic that exist on FlyerTalk.
I point this out for reference purposes only.
