Well would you adam 'n' eve it: Here I am sitting outside Starbucks on Beach Rd In Pattaya minding my own business reading all the latest gossip and the girl sitting two table to my left has just been proposed to.

It all started with one of the Starbucks crew bringing out a ghetto blaster playing Bryan Adams (everything I do I do it for you) which I thought ...'s going on here. Next thing, this geezer from absolutely nowhere comes up to get, gets down on one knee, shows her the ring and she bursts into tears.

Gotta admit to getting a bit emotional about it all myself.

Anyway, 20 minutes later this guys still on one knee (that cant be comfy but hey, thats love for you) and they're still in close conversation. I'm gaggin to know if she said yes. He hasnt put the ring on her finger yet so maybe there's a bit of resistance.

Well I aint going nowhere till I get an answer. All I will say is if she has said yes then he's one hell of a lucky fella.

Suffice to say I shall keep this open until the result is in.

I surprised my wife of 26 years with a trip to Paris from Heathrow in 1988 (which involved giving a frozen chicken to the the BA check-in agent, which wouldnt be allowed now) and proposed in a lovely restaurant - she said No.

I persevered, and a year later she said yes

So - don't worry too much if it is a no!

My wife said yes straight off and has regretted it ever since (so she keeps telling me). And to keep this on topic, she flew BA once and regretted it ever since.

We flew BA to MLA, and I proposed outside a shoe shop in Valetta. I still have no idea why I did that there and then, but 37 year later it seems to have been a good move on my part

Somehow we missed the entire proposal process, more of a 'lets get married' whilst in Hong Kong and went to choose the ring together... We were young and it kind of seemed more logical.

I proposed while we shared a bag of chips on Helensburgh promenade. Despite her dislike for anything acidic she allowed me to have some vinegar put on the chips. I decided there and then she was going to be the one....and we've been sweet ever since.

I often wonder if it would have turned out different had I wanted a pickle

I got in trouble for flying my GF to LHR, driving her down to Cornwall and showing her around many romantic vistas, and not proposing. But I wanted her to meet all my eccentric English relations first in that trip and see what she would be getting into. I made good with a ring a few months later.

This topic reminds me of something: My girlfriend's now husband proposed to her on a plane. Somehow he got the flight crew involved and, the actual pilot said it over the loudspeaker. It was something along the lines of "We have a very special passenger request, [Harry] would like to know if [Sally] would marry him..." She was mortified and frozen into speechlessness, while the passengers all wondered who she was and if she said yes. They've been married about 20 years now, so it all worked out.

Wondering what happened.....very interesting topic.

I've always thought what a gutsy move to ask someone to marry you in public, without knowing what the answer would be beforehand. It makes for a dramatic event no doubt. But I would want to be certain of a yes answer before setting up such an event.

I have an American friend who's fluent in Italian and English who was in a coffee shop in Rome one morning reading an Italian newspaper. American couple comes in and proceeds to bicker. Woman says, in English, " No, I won't marry you" and proceeds to list the guy's inadequacies, including poor performance in bed. My friend just hid behind his newspaper.

Not a fan of these public proposals. I don't want to be bothered and really could care less that your getting married.
