Those things seem to be under pressure. I usually open them backwards and spray the seat back instead of myself

I realise this is an old post but wanted to address this - technically Qantas is actually an acronym not a word hence no U after the Q.

Showed up at LHR this morning for an early flight - in my house slippers. Thank God there is a lot of retail here. That would have made for an interesting meeting later.

I always poke the top of the milk or yogurt container with the fork for that reason.

Vacuum probably, should keep 'em from going off for longer.

Nope, pressure is correct. They're filled at ground level, typically close to sea level as far as atmospheric pressure is concerned. We open them in an airplane pressurized to around 8,000'/2,500m. Way less.

This one was almost embarrassing....

I lived in city X for several years. And after I moved away from X, I flew back for work quite often. One of these flights, thanks to delays all day long, got me in at about 1:30am. In my 1/2 asleep state, I got into a cab and told the cabbie to take me to my old house, as I had done 100 times while living there. Then fell asleep for the 45 minute drive. I got to my old house, got out of the cab, and was just about to start walking up the driveway when I finally realized, waaaait a second, I don't live here anymore. Got back in the cab and told him to take me to the hotel, which was another 40 minutes back. So instead of a 5-10 minute trip to the hotel, it was an hour and a half ordeal.

I'm glad I snapped out of it since I'm not sure how the new residents would have reacted had a stranger tried to open the front door at 2:15am.

Boarded D1 a few years ago and was convinced someone's cell phone was trapped under the seat (like in lay flat mode) and the owner must have been calling it as it kept vibrating. Two FAs were trying to find it. Didn't realize there was a seat massage function that had been put on by mistake. Neither did one of the FAs!

Landed after a 2 week trip and a long flight home and was with my parents and husband. So many suitcases between us, all bags look alike (same Costco silver suitcases). Suitcases were all laid out in rows in baggage claim area and we dispersed to grab luggage. Accidentally grabbed an extra identical suitcase and walked it through customs to meet the driver before we all realized I had an extra bag (I returned it to the airline office). Felt like an idiot and sorry that someone would be looking for a bag after a long flight.

Been on the receiving end of that some years ago - got off plane, waited for luggage, and waited, and waited...... Eventually decided no more luggage was arriving so made a lost luggage report then headed through customs only to find my bag sitting just the other side of customs. I decided that someone had done just that, picked up my bag thinking it was theirs!

I was on the receiving end of this going to O'Hare. Embassy Suites shuttle that services the Hilton and one other airport. I was in the back so I was the last one off. When I got back there the only bag left was not mine. I took off and went into a very crowded check-in area. I guessed left and luckily was right and caught the guy. It was a major panic wake up call for 5 AM.

Not so much embarrassing as feeling humiliated. Presented ourselves at JFK for a trip to Madras (Chennai). Agent tells us we are not on the flight, we beg for her to try again (harder), and it's hinted that if we don't leave quietly, we'll be "escorted" away.

The family friend of my s/o who was also a "freelance" travel agent had screwed it up somehow; she got us on a flight on a different airline the next day. Unfortunately, that whole adventure spiraled into a Trip from Hell tale as soon as we left the airport in India.

This was years ago with paper tickets; we couldn't have easily checked the original reservation ourselves without calling the airline when we believed things were fine.

Flying an AB Q400 DUS-HAM recently, I sat next to a guy who hasn’t said a word during to the whole flight. Right after landing, he suddenly starts talking.

Guy: So yeah, we just landed and I wanted to talk to you real quick
Me: Uh, okay?
Guy: Do you have any plans for later today?
Me: Uh, that’s none of your business. Why?
Guy: Hold on, this guy next to me wants something.

Turns out his he was just using his Bluetooth headset, which I couldn’t see because he was wearing it on the other side. Whoa, that was embarrassing.

That's funny.

My embarrassing moment was after I had enjoyed MH satay. It was so yummy I ate lots. After about 15 minutes I could feel my tummy rumbling and knew that it wasn't going to be pleasant. I was on the upper deck of a 747 so scooted downstairs (so one of those passengers could take the blame) to use their toilet then scooted back up. Since that day I have NEVER had satay on any airplane or lounge!

That was years ago. I'm still embarrassed about it!

Carrot juice

Not mine, but I love this anecdote (source: http://www.airliners.net/forum/viewt...13157#p2076601)
I was on a crazy health diet, which involved drinking lots of carrot juice. I had to travel to a conference, so decided to squeeze a big Tupperware containerful and take it with me. I put it in a bag and placed it in the overhead locker. Well, as we neared cruising altitude, the liquid expanded, burst the seal, and poured out between the locker opening, and ran like a bright orange waterfall over the guy in the seat behind. The FA came along and removed the container, giving me a filthy look; but there must have been a reservoir in the bottom of the locker, because when we were descending, another waterfall cascaded all over the woman in front. There were these two bright orange passengers storming off the plane when we landed, and me with a bright red face. I was so worried that I would have the same FA on the return flight, but fortunately I didn't.

Not exactly on a flight but close to it. After flying CBR-SYD-TPE-LAX-LAS-PHX we were absolutely exhausted. We still had the last leg of the journey to PIT. It was Christmas Day. We were at the gate (America West back in 2003) and the plane was due to board in an hour. My two daughters (aged 16 and 17) and I decided to lie down for a rest at the gate. We all fell asleep. An hour and a half later one of us woke up to find the gate said 'FLL' and not 'PIT'. The plane had gone without us. No one at the gate saw us to wake us up - not even the America West staff on the desk. It was very embarrassing having to explain that to the airline. They only flew that route once a day. We had the choice of waiting 23.5 hours for the next flight or buying new tickets which were expensive. Luckily, one of the Am. West staff had a friend in UA who was able to put us on a redeye leaving Phoenix at midnight for no extra charge. We made sure we didn't fall asleep waiting for that one even though it was another very boring eight or so hours in the old 'nothing to do' terminal.
