A long time ago, when my sister worked for Pan Am, I was able to hitch a ride on a 747 being shuttled from LA to Seattle. Just me and a couple other Pan Am employees. No Drink service LOL

UA 747
Way back in 1973 my wife and I flew to the Hawaiian islands for the first time. We ended up in Hilo after 3 weeks. We were scheduled to fly back to LAX from Hilo on a UA 747. Mechanical delays occured and we were told that it would be several hours. UA offered any passenger not wanting to wait, a flight to HNL, where they had a smaller plane they could put in use for the return. Only about 30 passengers stayed. We loved Hawaii and decided that we weren't in a hurry, even if we had to spend the night. We went for a nice lunch and returned to the terminal to get an update....and were shocked to find out that the plane would be repaired and ready to leave in another hour. They put everyone in First Class, and of course, all drinks were on the house. Wow!

Probably 40 passengers on a 767 from BRU to ORD this spring and maybe 55 passengers on a A340 from ORD to MUC last week. Everyone got their own row for the most part.

On my honeymoon the interisland flight from HNL-OGG was on the very new (at the time) Go! airlines. We had 8 pax on the flight.

World Airways
A World Airways flight from OAK-HKG (Kai Tak) in 1981. Fuel stops in ANC and NRT. It was a 747-100 that was flying at US Gov't expense to Asia to pick up Vietnamese refugees for their move to the U.S.
World decided smartly to sell seats one way to HKG for $250. There was just one class, economy and the FA said it was configured for 490 seats and that the passenger count was probably close to 600 on the return with many babies on laps! I sat in Row 1 right in the nose. There were 12 passengers total. All backpackers like me, not worried about how we would return. (I went around the world.) |
Took a Saudi Airlines flight from JED->RUH->SIN, operated by a 747 a few months ago.
The JED->RUH portion of the flight had less than 10 passengers on it - there were more FAs than passengers by far. I a portion of the coach cabin to myself, and even had a row of 4 seats to myself for the RUH->SIN portion after a few dozen people got on in RUH. |
they were young then.. :D

This past July I was flying from LAX to Flores, Guatemala via DFW and BZE. When I landed in Belize City, the agent for my flight to Flores came up to me and said, "Let's go." I got on the plane and was the only passenger. I even took video of the empty plane to show friends how I "chartered" my own aircraft for my vacation.

A bunch of years back, I was waiting on my flight from DCA to BOS. The gate agent announced, "We'd like to starting boarding our passenger for flight xxxx." I thought I miss heard something, but yes, I was the only passenger. I wasn't even supposed to be on that flight. I had arrived early at DCA for my flight home and was catching the next earlier available flight.
All female flight deck crew; all female cabin crew. Penthouse Forum story....no such luck :( |
Another "all by myself" story. Whatever United's puddle-jumper was on Christmas Day 1984, Cheyenne to Denver. I think just before noon. Me & 2 pilots & one FA.
She even offered me a beer...didn't ask for ID and I was only 17. Didn't take it. |
DTW to EWR on a Wednesday night. 12 people total including 2 pilots and 1 stewardess.

Maybe 4 years ago - Phoenix to Page, AZ. Wife, self and one other passenger in a very small plane (A100 ?) 21 seats and no lav. Like chess pieces we were carefully placed in the rear to balance the aircraft.

Years ago AA flight on Easter Sunday early morning...5 people.
The service was great that flight! :D |
