5 passengers IND to EWR on CO, a few years ago. Nearly all the passengers on my flight had been rebooked on the very delayed flight that had been scheduled to leave two hours earlier. We then somehow got clearance to take off first and landed on time, while that earlier now full flight was delayed a few more hours.

Only one in F on a DL 727 SLC -> STL...turned out it would be my last ride on a 727, so a nice way to close that book!
Only one in F on DL 737-200 CVG -> SDF. Started cracking up when the F/A was doing the saftey briefing to just me. Decided it was better to do it in verse so we briefed each other. :D A classic moment! |
About 55 passengers on a KLM 747 from AMS to DTW. Very spacious and relaxing flight!

Two years ago, a United A320 went mechanical, everyone was rebooked on the next 763 in an hour. I happened to walk by the original gate, and they fixed the plane, so was one of maybe 8 people in coach, and first was filled with non-revs.
Loved that flight! |
SARS express....NW 742, March 2003, NRT-SIN. Fewer than 20 people on board, and no others seated in J. Ms. Shark and I felt as if we had a private 747. It was quite eerie. A plane that size feels like a large, empty cave, devoid of life, when you can't see anyone else on board.

Dallas to lubbock - only 2 passengers [ one was me !! LOL !] and the flight attendant and pilot on American Airlines[ American Eagle] .Luckily, the flight attendant was pretty and we chatted away the whole hour. Never again did I see any flight with less than 10 passengers. that was one odd flight with only 4 people total.:)

I've got two stories on this theme.
One took place many years ago, when USAirways was still Piedmont Airlines. The closest I ever came to having an airplane all to myself was a trip from Charlottesville, Va to National Airport in DC (yes, it was that long ago). I think the plane was a DASH-80, but I'm not sure -- one of the little cigar-shaped ones, in any case. The only people on the plane were myself and the women's basketball coach from my university. The Piedmont folks tried to get each of us to move to another flight, but the timing of that flight was important for both of us. We had a nice conversation for the 30 minutes it took to get from here to there. The second story took place in Dec. 2009. My mother and I were flying Lufthansa from Frankfurt, Germany to Charlotte, NC after a 10-day cruise in the Mediterranean. The plane, a wide-body, had three cabins (that I could see). There was first class, business class, and economy, which is where I was. First and business class were sold out, but economy was only about a third full -- open seats everywhere. As we were boarding, I could see the business class passengers giving the economy cabin a long look as they settled in, and I could just see them thinking how they could get back there and snatch a few seats for their own. Toward the end of the seating process, I happened to be sitting next to where a flight attendant was standing, and casually mentioned to her that I thought that since the people in business class had paid for their wider seats and other amenities, they really deserved to get them. The FA caught my drift, and she said, "I agree" and went to shut the curtains between the cabins. We in economy spread out very comfortably for the entire flight. What a wonderful turn of events! --ladytraveler |
Had a fun one last night. MRY-LAX on a United CRJ-200 with six total passengers including me. I calculated we could each have two rows to ourselves and 13 AB could sit empty :D. Fastest takeoff I can remember.

A few years back when Northwest flew 753s on the IND-MSP route, I was traveling to Minneapolis as my final destination. It was supposed to be a 7:30am departure but there was a mechanical issue which pushed us back until after 9:00pm. It was a Saturday and I didn't have any business in MN until Sunday, so I just ran some errands. Most of the other passengers from our flight got rebooked onto other flights during the day, so when we boarded, there were two in coach and just me in first.

About 7 passengers in a 767/757 (anyways had three aisles 2-3-2) Cuba to Calgary. The plane travelled low the whole time to save fuel.

DEN-YEG on a UX E170 today.. Five in F, and fifteen in Y. ^

ummm. Memory test here. I think it was 1982, maybe 83 when the old Western Airlines flew into IAH from DEN. My wife and I were the only two on board a 737 and the thing I recall was it was one of the bumpiest flights ever taken and I've taken lots.
It was the end of a very very long day from Maui to HNL on one of the hoppers and then Western from HNL to LAX (change) DEN (change) and the final leg getting into IAH around 10pm or later. They pulled out of IAH shortly thereafter. The ticket was a freebie for flying on Western to DEN a few trips. |
1 week after 911 a UA flight ORD-MCI -September 18th 2011, 20 on board total.

Years ago, probably back in 2000-2005 time, a friend of mine was flying YEG-YYC and the Air Canada Dash 8 went tech. AC put my friend (Air Canada Super Elite at the time) and another Elite onto a Central Mountain Air (when they still worked with AC) flight. Alone, while everyone else waited for a new aircraft to be flown in from Calgary (I think it was almost a 2 hour delay). She arrived within 30 mins of what she was supposed to.
She said it was very strange- She'd flown the Beechraft before, but said it was creepy with just her and one other person in the back.... I was once on a group trip that went sideways, and ended with us flying from Europe to Calgary on AC, needing to get to YEG, with all flights full for the day. After 5 hours of waiting on standby with no success, AC added a DH3 flight. All 25 of my group and about 6 standbys were put on and we went the second we all boarded. Our flight was given a 7XXX number, versus the regular 8XXX. The flight did not show up of YEG FIDS....when we arrived, we were met by nobody, as all the families were trying to figure out where our flight was! Also sat in J on an Air BC BAE 146 with just my family once in October 2001. There were 8 seats, and 5 of us took the entire cabin, as we were on AE reward tickets. We had a private FA, but it wasn't anything special. This past summer, flew on a LOT ATR 42 to Ukraine, with I think 14 or 15 pax total (the one in "J" was a uniformed LOT employee), out of 46 seats. I think there were 2 or 3 FAs, which was strange, but nice! Boarding was quick, as when we got on the plane, we thought there would be another bus, but when we all sat, they closed the door, and we went! The return was overslod :) Other than that, FULL. |
In about '96 I flew MAN-CDG-FRA, with the CDG-FRA leg being a 737 with about half a dozen passengers and about 30 flight attendents in transit all of who helped out. I've never had such service on a plane ever!
