When heading home from college Seattle to Sacramento back in early 90's I remember UAL had a flight that was 10pm My gf would walk me up to the gate (memories of those days) on numerous occasions the ga would come over the pa "mr D....your flight is waiting for you". Look down at my watch it would say 930, they would tell me "everyone is on board, just waiting for you". Get on board. Maybe 6 passengers. UAL no longer flys SEA-SMF. I miss the charter jet :D

In Dec 96 I flew ISP-ALB on operated by US Express/Allegheny. I think it was a crj, but it was just one other passenger and me.

I was once going from SAN to PHX, and my flight was delayed beyond the NEXT two PHX flights, so everyone from my flight booked themselves onto the next 2. I was in no hurry myself so I just waited it out. Had dinner, met with a local friend etc. My flight ended up being the last of the night with only 7 people on it.
Back in 1987 I was on a late night AA 727 from LGA to YYZ. 4 pax. I asked the FA why AA would even bother and she said there was cargo and the plane had to be repositioned to YYZ anyhow. |

In 1989 I flew DEN ORD on UA 727-200 last flight to Chicago. We had a total of 4 of us in F/C, Y was empty. Two young female F/A's working the flight invited me to coach mid flight. I won't go into details, but I joined the mile high club that night lol.

Now that we've had our fun with this thread on the Southwest forum, I'm going to move it to TravelBuzz where more people can join in. Please follow the redirect header to the new home for this thread.

3 on a UA 737 PHX-SFO
(it was on 9/22/11 and a few days after planes started flying again after 9/11 so I figured the flight would be empty but not that empty) |

I'm sitting at PDX and they just announced a flight to Reno that only has 16 people out of 137. In all my years of flying that has got to be the least number of passengers (percentage wise).
Sixteen on a 137 seat plane is unusual these days. Fifteen or twenty years ago it wasn't. I am sure 9/11 caused some planes to fly with few passengers. |
PIH - SLC, I was the only passenger.
Small airport, TA's doubled as GA's and baggage loader. |

A couple months later a gasoline shortage developed. Between that and word of mouth, PanAm eventually filled those repositioning flights! Wish I had been on that empty 747! |
Less then a year after 9-11 RJ to DCA just me and another guy who was an air marshall.

Mods - There's already a long thread on this topic:

Long thread already exists out on FT somewhere.
I think I'm still in the lead as a sole passenger on a USAir 737. |

Ehh, if every thread had to be original this board would be like 3 pages long. Which I guess would be perfect for some.
My most empty flight was Sept 11/2002. Hardly anyone was flying on the anniversary. Went New York, can't even remember the airport now, to SEA. 8 passengers. Got bumped up almost first class. What I do remember well was the knock out of a FA who came and sat beside me for an hour or so. She was something. Only FA I've ever dated. |
AFAIK
I was the *sole* passenger in coach on a ~20 minute DC-10 hop between HNL and OGG, back "Before Dirt," when UA was offering interisland service LAX-HNL-OGG-LAX.
"not no more...." |
