Using the data?
Hey cockpitvisit,
great work on the application and putting together all of this data!
I am currently developing a web page where the route network information would fit in very nice - so far I was gathering this from the Wikipedia pages, but thats kind of a nightmare. So I was wondering wether you would allow me to use your route information on my page - obviously, with a big fat credit to you and your app.
regs,
Marco
P.S.: airports.palzkill.de - still in early alpha stage, so expect a lot more stuff to come.

great - BTW works fine with Linux (under wine)
Thanks for this great tool!
I'm running it using Wine (version 1.2) on Linux (Debian and Ubuntu) and it works fantastically.
The redraws are snappy (which is sometimes a problem with Wine) - nice one!
Thought this post might tempt other Linux users to try it.

Maybe this has already been asked (and answered), but what I'm really interested to know is how you go about gathering all this data - surely you have automated it somehow. What's the source?
These dat files you provided are a great start for anyone wanting to build aviation related software though. Thanks so much!

The route data in the link above is taken from ARM, but it's further processed to cross-reference with the airport and airline databases. Without this step, you'll need to rely on the IATA codes alone, which are quite difficult to match correctly.

I don't know if this is possible but is it possible to split the regionals between the major carriers? For example rather than saying:
UA ORD SDF * 0 ERJ CRJ
could it say which regional carrier operates each route and list the regionals as separate carriers?

All the files you have mentioned should be in same folder as the airline route mapper program
this folder is usually c:\program files\airline route mapper
Have you moved the program to a different folder?
If all else fails then simply download the program again
ps Welcome to FlyerTalk amudha

airliners.dat
Hi cockpitvisit,
Great work as always! I'm looking forward to the next update. I would like to offer a number of corrections to alliances.dat which has fallen a little behind the times:
Oneworld -
add: S7 (S7 Airlines)
remove: MX (Mexicana, hasn't left the alliance yet but suspended all operations)
SkyTeam -
add: RO (Tarom)
Star Alliance -
add: JP (Adria Airways), A3 (Aegean Airlines), KF (Blue1), OU (Croatia Airlines), JJ (TAM Linhas Aereas)
remove: FM (Shanghai Airlines)
Regards,
caesar04

For Futur versions
^Hi -
Just got in touch with your application - Very nicely done (gives you an overall air picture of all airline and route in the World. I know you worked hard to create this application. For me, its usefull to understand the concentration of flights and routings of specific airliners.
If you allow me, I would like to provide a few suggestion for future version, althought the current version is excellent. (the suggestion could provide added value to your app)
1. Slightly better contrast difference between world regions and oceans;
2. Thin country boundaries between countries (Adjacent countries on a different contrast);
3. ICAO Code in Black or Dark gray for better vision;
4. Option to select and display a quantity of specific airport on the map;
5. Option to see the Flight Information Region display - (FIRS)
6. When selecting one airline, Option to have a title on the corner of the Map to identify the airline selected.
7. Maybe an indicator of the date of the data Ex: data as of 07 sept 2010.
8. Finally - The possibility to print a map in color or black and white.
Still what you have done is excellent and I know its on your own time - I like to use this for reference. If you have time to include those features, It could add additional fonctionality to your application
Cheers

Thanks for the feedback!
I hope to add customizable colors in the future.
I don't have FIR data, and I think it would be far beyond the scope of the tool (which is to provide route information for passengers). Not sure why you want the title of the airline on the map - it is already visible in the dropdown box used to select it. Maybe I'll add user-supplied background bitmaps in the future. This is mostly intended for satellite images of the Earth (like NASA Blue Marble), but FIR regions could of course be added to it too provided someone else does this.
You see this already in the about dialog box that appears when you start the program or press the ? button.
You can already capture a screenshot and print it out. As for a better-quality printout similar to those in airline magazines, it is quite a tedious task and sadly not high on my list of priorities.
If you are interested in nice-looking printed route maps, I would suggest you to have a look at OAG Flight Atlas.
